We know that the edicts handed down by Muhammad began on Dec 22nd, 609 and ended 23 years later with his death. But do we know WHEN certain edicts were handed down?
As a more modern religion, it is very interesting to see how certain portions of the Quran can be held up with real life events. In specific, I was looking at 2:221 earlier today and 5:5 (both have to do with interfaith marriage) and the timing of these edicts could be super interesting. 2:221 is in regarding to not marrying polytheists, which may coincide with the persecution of Muslims by the Quryashi tribe (polytheists). 5:5 gives permission to marry Those of the Book (Jews/Christians) and could coincide with the later spread of Islam running into the Christian world. (Just an uneducated hypothesis).
This thought process led me to the question. Do we have any idea of what portions of the Quran were handed at what times during the last 23 years of Muhammad's life?

That is, when did these groups come to be seen as distinct, whether by historians, themselves, or otherwise?
I tried asking this last week here and at /r/AskSocialScience but didn't receive any response from either, apart from the suggestion to resubmit here after Passover.

So I am making a mod for a game, Europa Universalis IV which covers the years 1444-1821.
I am working to fix the culture groups to make them make more sense, i.e. Slovak being in the same group as Czech/Polish rather than Hungarian.
So I have the following questions:
Should Romanian be in the Byzantine, South Slavic, West Slavic, East Slavic, or ??? group?
Was Novgorodian a real culture? Should it just be Russian?
Should Andalusian be in the Iberian culture group, or North african? (or on it's own?)
Should Transylvanian be in south slavic group? If not, which group should it be?
Should Armenian be in the Byzantine group?
Should Buryat be in the Mongol group?
I am planning on making a Turkish group, consisting of Turkish, Azerbaijani and Turkmeni. Should this include any more cultures? Should this be merged with the mongol group?
Should the North African group (consisting of Tunisian, Berber, Algerian and Moroccan) be merged with the Arabic group (which consists of Egyptian, Syrian, Mashriqi, Bedouin, Omani and Yemeni)?
If you are familiar with cultures in EU4, do you know of any other changes I should make?

Hey all! I've been trying to find information about the LDS Church's (focusing on Utah and especially in regards to Brigham Young) role in the Civil War. LDS resources obviously paint their role very positively, while other sources seem divided between actions like providing military support to the Union or nonviolent clashes against Union forces.
Any clarification would be awesome, thanks!

I often hear of the positive side of conquest by Europeans like Napoleon (Napoleonic Code), Caesar (Salad, Shakespeare plays) and Alexander (spread Hellenic culture). Even Hitler built the autobahn. On the other hand, it seems like the Asiatic hordes of Tamerlane, Genghis Khan and Atilla the Hun are portrayed as nothing more than rampaging barbarians. Is there any truth to this distinction? I'm hoping for an answer so I limited the title to the Mongolians.

The spear that I refer is the Dory or similar, not the sarrissa or pikes in general.

Especially since the Republic of Belarus, which seems to be the 'rightful' heir of the initial country, has been a thing for about 25 years now. Does the BPR's government-in-exile just not approve of Alexander Lukashenko's authoritarian rule or is there something more at play?

I have read of many goods that the western world desired from the east throughout history, silk, spices, jade, etc. But what goods, if any, did the western world have that interested the civilizations of the east throughout history?

The city of Rome was a huge urban center, and of course was not only populated by the affluent. What would the average person, who obviously could not farm on the city streets, do for a living?
