I don't understand why repeater rifles weren't very popular as a replacement for bolt action rifles, I'm not much of a gun nut but repeaters have a much faster loading time than bolt action

Another entry details Celine's character trying to find out if the Germans had captured a town or not. Wouldn't it be obvious where the line between French and German lines were? Or not?

I might have just been in a bad mood that day (the beggars and trinket sellers were particularly aggressive), because I didn't get a similar sense of waste from places like Karnak etc.

For reference the infamous Omaha Beach landing scene in Saving Private Ryan and the Peleliu landing focusing on Eugene Sledge and Robert Leckie from The Pacific are the specific scenes I have in my head.

Are these scenes accurate or is it a creative choice to highlight just how much danger these men went through?

I'm interested in both pre-war monarchy Yugoslavia and post war socialist Yugoslavia's relationship with the USSR, and later members of the Warsaw pact. My understanding of events are that they were socialist but distinctly more moderate than the Warsaw pact countries but please correct me if this was not the case. I was wondering how well they got on with the more extreme communist, Stalinist ect countries with people like Stalin's desire to clamp down on variations from Stalinist communism mixing with his thirst for expansion.

It seems like a pretty common cliche to use, but I can't find the original usage.

Hello, I would like to know what happened to the ethnic Prussians. The Prussians that gave birth to great names as Otto von Bismarck, and Fredrick the Great, the ones who had one of the most powerful armies in history, the ones that just... Disappeared? I have done hours of research before asking this question, and I am aware that many were deported and killed after WWII, but it isn't specify what TYPE of German they were. I assume most of the exiled/killed Germans in eastern Europe were Prussians, but what happened to the rest of the Prussian population? I've been told by people and read in various places that there aren't many Prussians in Germany, however if when the Germans from eastern Europe were allegedly evacuated into Germany, what happened to the Prussian ethnicity?

I am researching my ancestor, and it appears that he was in the 16th, although this isn't definite. Can anyone give me details about where they fought prior to 1917 (he was wounded and transferred to hardelot on 2 sep. 1916, and transferred to labour corps) and maybe provide some photos of the 16th? Any guesses to which battle he may have fought in judging off of his regiment and date of injury? Anything useful is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Some viewed the war as inevitable with the US, but couldn't the Japanese Empire invade Indonesia for its oil rather than fighting the US?
