I'm reading about the Easter Rising and the wiki article about it states that the Rising failed because of superior numbers and artillery of the British forces. With WW1 commencing, how was Britain able to commit anything of worth to the suppression of the Rising? We're there British forces in Ireland?

I'm trying to figure out when the actual centenary of the Republic of Ireland is. (I'm assuming the irish free state and Eire are different?)

How could a person be offended by this stuff 50 years ago? In a liberal Western country like America, no less?

Specifically in the sense that they could lose battle after battle, but would somehow be able to get the resources to send armies straight back out to fight. I've heard it remarked that they became so prominent because they could take a punch better than their neighbours, but what was it about them that made them able to do this?

I imagine there was a significant anti-British sentiment in the early US around the time of the Revolutionary War, which probably lasted until well afterwards. What happened to relations afterwards to make them as favourable as they are today?

I have looked at the back log of questions and answers and see a lot of responses for jews and Irish but not specifically for Italians. I ask because my grandmother was from an upper class white NC family and met and married my grandfather who was lower middle class at best and 1st generation Italian in the 1940's. I am curious to know if this would have been considered a mixed race marriage at the time. They were married in NC.

From what I understand after it's original debut, Newton's verses were not well known until the song gained traction during the Second Great Awakening. I'm interested in the processes that spurred it's rise, as well as it's growing importance on both sides of the Atlantic, in both European and African American churches.

How did the song increase in popularity? How was it used/was it an important/essential hymn during the Second Great Awakening? Is it's popularity merely a modern thing? Did Newton's slave-trading past influence the acceptance of his words?

This was passed a couple years after the death of FDR, who was elected to office four times. FDR was also considered a great president. Why did FDR influence the term limits of a president when he did many great things as president? Weren't people glad that he was in office longer than a standard president?

Would I expect drunken brawls if a robbery? I have trouble imagining they would be what one would call safe.

Greece in the classical era is often known for having homosexual relationships being more tolerated than in later, Christian times in Europe. But most of the sources on this subject focuses on male romantic relationships, such as between an older man and his boy-lover in Plato or between two men in Sparta. I wanted to know, how common romantic relationships between two women were in the Classical Greek city-states? The only mention of this I remember from my classics courses was in Sappho and Aristophanes' Lysistrata, neither of which are actually historical documents. Were lesbian relationships commonplace? How accepted were they by society as a whole? Were there any famous instances of lesbian marriages, or of lesbian couples living together and raising families?

By Classical Greece, I mean the Greek city-states (Athens, Sparta, etc.), from about 510 to 323 BCE.
