William Tecumseh Sherman's post-civil war fame occurred nearly 85 years after major events involving the Shawnee tribe and their leader, Tecumseh. Is there any evidence of a connection between this shared, unique name? (Even if just out of respect, not necessarily blood relation)

So I just completed a long time goal of reading the bible cover to cover. And one thing that struck me is how little of the apocrypha you typically think of (heaven, angels, demons, etc) is really described. With the exception of Revelations it just isn't really discussed. Yet throughout the text they are constantly making allusions to Beelzebub or Baal etc.

I know that later texts like the Divine comedy where large contributors to the canon, but clearly there was more going on in the time between gospels. So where do those mystical stories come from? How where they spread? And without a centralized church how did people know which ones to trust?

I'm looking for historical accounts of what religion buddha was raised in. Was it vedic or something else?

Specifically, how these decisions were made and why they were made.

I always kind of wondered about this, as I suppose ties with Russia were a lot stronger back then.

I mean this to be for someone who has secured the nomination of their party, but I'm also interested in hearing about people who were leading the polls towards their eventual nomination, but died before they could be declared the winner.

And the events leading up to it. I'm not looking for a full history of Zionism, just the war against the British and then the war between Israel and the Arabs.

It seems the US's efforts to rebuild and make Japan/S Korea were very effective. The US went so far as to rid of the religious ideology/fervor surrounding the emperor by forcing to go on radio and say he was just a normal person. Now, Japan & Korea have embraced many parts of US culture and are extremely close allies.

Why do people say that rebuilding nations and controlling their governments during a rebuild is ineffective & only creates resentment when it seems to have worked for those two countries? What was different?

Were there ever any plans for Muslim forces to invade Europe given how Europeans invaded them.

Information regarding the city of Mecca would be especially helpful.

I find it odd that the Allies went to war with Hitler but not with Stalin, when they both did the same thing.

I just finished I. F. Stone's The Trial of Socrates, and in the chapter 'Socrates and Homer', he says:

Homer, as the Bible to the Greeks, could be quoted on either side of most controversies since he is as rich in ambiguities and contradictions as our Holy Writ.

Is the comparison between Homer and the Bible accurate for 5th and 4th century Greece? Did they go back to The Iliad and The Odyssey in much the same way Christianity or Judaism look at the Bible?

I know Stone isn't a historian, but he seems to have done a lot of research in the book.

Understanding that Nazi Germany was expansionist in the goals of expanding their lebensraum and pushing east to eliminate the Judeo-Bolshevik system; why is the Final Solution the extermination of the Jews and not just dumping them back in their Promised Land? I'm aware Israel didn't exist at the time as it was Palestine. And that after the war the British Mandate was very against displaced Jews returning to Palestine. But I want to understand the situation beyond the answer in my head; that the ultimate goal from the start was outright extermination.

Rock and Metal music are currently being played and developed in a number of countries and in a number of different languages, but it still originates from the Anglo-American world (United Kingdom and USA specifically). What historical events and national characteristics about he UK and the US led to the development of these music genres in the US and the UK and not in other countries with a long and rich history of music and culture, such as France and Germany.

It just seems much more logical for Ferdinand to 'get' the Netherlands because it's so much closer to the realms he got. Why did Charles V give it to Phillip II, seeing as it was relatively far away from Spain and Naples? Was it some smart political decision or for another reason?

I was told when I was younger that the Normans got their name from 'North Men' and that the area was invaded and settled by Vikings. However I think that the majority of what is modern day France was at that time inhabited by the Franks, a Germanic people.

Were the Normans who invaded England Nordic or Germanic, or a mixture of both?

I'm aware there's an Alexander the Great movie produced by Oliver Stone. Is it any good, and how's its historical accuracy?
