What was major power's reaction (ie the press or any government response) towards Hitler when he was elected? Also, what was their opinion towards the Nazi Party?
Thanks in advance.

Was everyone automatically citizens? Or was it not until later that it was formed.

(Asked again because no replies. I hope that's OK)
I get the impression British tanks and armoured cars are considered little better than deathtraps. Is that justified? Can anybody point me in the direction of some good books on the subject?

During the first year of war in the east Soviet Union suffered 4 million casualties, which is actually third more than they had frontline troops at the start of the war. Germans had penetrated hundreds of kilometers into Soviet Union and conquered many large cities (though factories tended to evacuate before them).
All this seems like very extraordinary punishment for nation to take so quickly. It seems kinda surprising that Soviet Union didn't lose the war in the end.
Has there ever been state that endured comparable punishment only to bounce back and win the war?

Assuming they survived the action, what happened to the captains after their ships sank?

I've always assumed it's the lack of economic diversity but I don't know.

I seen what Netanyahu said about Hitler only wanting to expel the Jews and that got me thinking, i had known about the Alhambra Decree where in Spain they were Expelled.
So then i googled 'where have jews been expelled from' and i got this
So i want to know how accurate that video is and why they have been expelled from so many countries?

What are some good recommended readings on the Franco-Prussian War (1870-71)? I am particularly interested in stuff that deals with military strategy, the logistics of the war and how the experience influenced later German generals and, eventually, German strategy in WWI.

Rock music, in the sense of distorted electric guitar, bass guitar, loud (very prominent) drums, and a verse/chorus format.
Some examples: https://youtu.be/auLBLk4ibAk https://youtu.be/zUwEIt9ez7M https://youtu.be/3ZlDZPYzfm4

You all ways hear about how the Nazi government was terrible and a blight to Germany (and in many ways they were), but Hitler managed to pull the country out of a severe depression much like Caesar.
I've all ways been interested in how Modern politics compares to their ancient counterparts, and the Nazi government seems like a good place to start. It shares many attributes with ancient forms of government (dictatorial style, much like Caesar and Pericles)
This is just to sate a midnight stroke of thought :)

So in the recent past some channel had a special on Atlantis. I don't recall if it was the History Channel or Discovery (my guess is the History channel coughalienscough) and my mother is damn well convinced now that Atlantis was a real place.
Did anyone watch this? I don't have the time to actually sit through the damn thing with my work schedule and she seems dead-set on telling me that Plato based his stories off an actual city that was destroyed by some volcano. And, despite me telling her he literally created the city as allegory for his views on why the republic was the best government and that saying he 'based' it off of an island city that was destroyed by a natural disaster is like saying Nostradomus predicted that the sun would rise a few more times, she seems to be 100% convinced in this stuff.
Call me a skeptic but the stuff she was saying about it made literally no sense. According to her, the piece showed that people who lived there were taller, had more advanced technology than Greece (Plato set his Atlantis 9000 years before his time IIRC so that'd be pretty damn revolutionary for a city to have better construction than a society that existed in the same place 9000 years later) and that the whole island was destroyed when the volcano underneath of it erupted (also convenient since we seem to have a lot of proof Pompei existed, where's this evidence?)
Yes, I'm starting off on the side of logic and I am sticking to the fact that a whole city cannot evade human detection in this day and age. BUT, if there is in fact some credibility to this, what is it? Also is any of this science peer-reviewed?

Over a drink last night this question entered my head and I would be quite interested to know if the use of suicide bombs in the region is more of a modern tactic (post 2001) or was already established from the previous war with the Soviets?
Cheers!

I was googing about Thai literature and came upon this info:
Leppert, Paul A. (1992). Doing Business With Thailand. p. 13. "At an early time the Thais used Chinese characters. But, under the Indian traders and monks, they soon dropped Chinese characters in favor of Sanskrit and Pali scripts."
Funny thing is, I'm from Thailand and there was no mention of this in school or textbooks. I'd really appreciate if someone can enlighten me. Thanks.

Are there other examples where illegal operations that were legalized were able to be made legitimate business? I'm asking since the change in government in Canada may bring legalized marijuana, could it be plausible that modern day gangsters soon be businessmen?

Surely common sense would have dictated it was hopeless, and surrender would only have reduced the suffering. It must have been the memory of 1918 and the fear of being the general who stabbed the fatherland in the back again. Is this correct?

I think everyone knows the image of a bunch of fresh-faced recruits getting screamed at by a surly drill sergeant and being made to go through grueling training.
However, when did this practice begin? I'm especially curious about how Medieval and Renaissance militaries trained their soldiers.
