Well my question is pretty much laid out in the title. I'm familiar with controversies around Iraq back around 2000ish, but I had no idea Powell was involved in Vietnam at all.
Basically I just came from a mention on Twitter that Powell led the military's attempt to hide the massacre - not just part of, but led it???
Can somebody shed some light on this? Is it even true?

so i was looking into this and half the people say they were highly trained part of the Japanese military while the other say they were most likely land workers with a sketchy night job and just wanted some advice on which is true.

I'm asking here because I couldn't find any religion subreddits with any significantly big subscriber count; but please redirect me if you know of one.
Part 1 of the question - So here's my understanding of seperating the Christian sects so far:
Protestant Christianity (all the sub-sects from Lutheran and Anglican in Europe to Baptist and Methodist in the US)
Catholic Christianity (the "one unified church" mainly in Europe and South America)
Orthodox Christianity (all the sub-sects from Greek and Russian to Bulgarian and Serbian)
Eastern Christianity (all the sub-sects from the thriving Armenian and Ethiopian churhes to the largely "dead" churches like Syrian and Coptic)
Would you say this is fairly accurate?
Part 2 of the question - What about Gnosticism, Nestorianism, Arianism, Bogomilism, and Catharism? These are either "dead" Christian faiths or significantly diminished in popularity and therefore practice. Do they belong in any of the above mentioned sects? Are there any sects of Christianity I'm missing here?

I'm not exactly sure how best to phrase this question. But witches are in vogue as an allegory of feminism and men/patriarchy fearing woman. How does this interpretation hold up to historical/empirical scrutiny? And is the feminist historiography more nuanced than my understanding from social media?

I'm curious because country like Poland and Spain seems to have economy big enough to support a domestic car industries. Or did they import cars from neighbouring countries.

Having just watched the movie which totally glosses over the true horrors, i then watched the true story and its 100x worse. Since this one project got so much attention i feel it may have distracted from other large projects that POW's worked on. What are they?

I don't want to hear any Armenian genocide denialism, but I am trying to get to the root of something here. How capricious/irrational were the Turks in their targeting of the Armenians?

In almost every category of clothing the women' clothing items reveal more skin than Men's clothes. Apart from this women's clothes are also more likely to be form fitting.
How did this 'Sexualization' of women's clothes come about? Before 20th century it seems clothes of both men and women were similar in terms of material to skin ratio. The difference seems to have increased after the WW2. What were the socio-economic and cultural changes that lead to this change?

I've recently become more interested in history, as I used to be as a child, but to say I've stumbled upon a little difficulty is something of an understatement.
I mostly tend to look at the likes of qualitative data, anything with evidence to back it up, but I've lost a lot of friends as a result of this. They say things like "Stalin didn't mean to starve people!" / "that's told through a particular lens!" and it has me questioning what I know.
My question is, is there some sort of criteria for filtering sources containing historical data/information? How do I know what I'm reading isn't biased?

I would like to learn about this, and I was wondering if there is a YouTube channel, video series, video etc. that gives the history of the west. Also is there a video series, channel, video etc for other parts of the world’s history?

I've been looking into south indian books and I've found a few, however, I was more interested in how royalty and the courts behaved and were carried out in South India, specifically in the dynastys like the Pallavas, Pandyas, Cheras, and Cholas! If anyone can recommend me any books or even sources in general for this, I'd be super thankful!

According to Wikipedia: "From the 13th century up to 1559 Dithmarschen was an independent peasants' republic within the Holy Roman Empire... Several times neighbouring princely rulers, accompanied by their knights and mercenaries tried to subdue the independent ministate to feudalism, however, without success."
Obviously I use the term communist more as a joke, since their National Missions in Europa Universallis IV have titles like "the means of production" and "the conquest of bread", but it's quite remarkable how a bunch of peasents, not connected or subservient to any merchant family, were able to defend a region from foreign incursors and govern themselves for centuries, during the late medieval and early modern ages, no less.
Are there any detailed historical records about it, how it worked, how day-to-day life operated? Any major research concerning this particular member of the Hansa, and it's relationship to the other trading cities?

Cahokia is supposed to be the biggest city in the pre-Columbian United States but it only reached 40,000. Meanwhile ancient Rome somehow reached 1,000,000 (a number which is higher than some estimates of the entire pre-Columbian United States!) And Tenochtitlan was only about as populous as Babylon in 500 BC. Even the highest estimate I’ve seen for the pre-Columbian United States is 18 million, which is a lower population density than modern Mongolia. What’s the reason for this?

Was it possible for a regular person in 1920 to sail on a ship from: 1.Batumi - Odessa 2.Odessa - Constantinople 3.Constantinople - Alexandria 4.Alexandria - Bombay 5.Bombay - Jakarta 6.Jakarta - Bangkok 7.Bangkok - Manilla 8.Manilla - Hanoi 9. Hanoi - Canton 10.Canton - Shanghai 11.Shanghai - Fukuoka 12.Fukuoka - Busan 13.Busan - Vladivostok
Are any of these routes unnatural? Like is there a route that's distance is too long, or maybe it would be more convenient to sail from Canton directly to Fukuoka and sailing to Shanghai is not necessary? Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance and sorry for bad English.
