Even modern steel claptraps are pretty gnarly, and their humaneness is debatable. I can only imagine that in the 1600's and 1700's the traps were even more gruesome, especially before there were strict laws governing hunting practices.

Did any fur traders express distaste or even remorse about what happened to pelt animals? When were the first attempts made to develop humane mechanisms for trapping?

Or have changes in politics - in particular polarization - made constitutional amendments much more difficult than in the past?

Did the three-fifths compromise change census data? I mean, before hand were slaves even counted in the census, and after the compromise, were they counted? And if they were counted were they counted 1 for 1, or 1 for ^3/5 ?

I wanted to do my Senior Thesis on this particular thought, but after speaking to a professor about it he could only assure me that it was mostly crops and food that made it back? I already knew this, and didn't want to delve into the physical aspects of cultural exchange, but more the societal changes that might or might not have occurred. I've heard a lot about how brutal cave fighting was on islands like Iwo Jima and Okinawa during WW2. What was it about those battles that made it important to clear out so many caves by hand? Why was it not possible to simply seal off any caves they found?

According to Wikipedia, Xenophon mentions an Eucleides on his list of the Tyrants, and there is also an Eucleides named as Archon the year after their overthrow, but I'm uncertain if it's just a coincidental name, a mistake on Xenophon's part, or whether the same man then managed to get himself elected Archon the year after he was ousted.
