The older the better, but it doesn't have to be the oldest you can think of, especially if it's more interesting to talk about something more recent. Nevertheless, older is generally more interesting from the point of view that I'm interested in right now, which is the one that wants to know more about the nature of Propaganda.

Thinking about both the Abrahamic religions and others here - eg the concept of Brahman in Hinduism, Zoroastrianism, maybe some aspects of Buddhism, Atenism etc. in contrast to religions such as Jainism, various kinds of paganism and folk religions, and others which are surviving polytheistic religions but which lack that integration into state structures monotheism seems able to achieve.

To me it seems fairly intuitive that a consolidating state would seek to derive a unique legitimacy from a unique supreme being, but I'd be interested to hear if this is a subject historians have written about.

There are a lot of stories out there about civilizations that began as a monarchy or an empire or something similar, then changed into a democracy or a republic. But are there any civilizations out there for which the reverse happened? A government that was a republic, democracy, or something similar, then either became or returned to a monarchy?

I read a TIL post about it and I was curious about whether or not America tricked the inhabitants out of their islands purposefully?

I am currently writing a research paper covering D-Day. As of now all of my information is coming from the Allied point of view. I would like to gather information on what the Axis forces were anticipating, and their actions during/immediately after the invasion to better understand the invasion as a whole.

Are stories like The Iliad, The Odyssey, and The Aeneid mostly myth/fiction, or is there a large portion of real historical context to the stories? What is myth, what is fictionalized, and what is historical? Or do we even know for sure?

This is more of a historical theory question perhaps. I know that regional history is not always taught outside that region and that, like with the example of the Native American and Manifest Destiny, history is written by the "winner".

However, despite the geographical limitations of history, has any criteria been found that looks at whether certain types of events are more... historically "memorable" than others?

Many plains people survived off cattle, buffalo, deer. Many coastal/lake/river peoples survived off fish. Many people have used domesticated chickens, ducks and other fowl to produce eggs. Some mountain people and African tribes live almost exclusively off of milk from cows, goats, sheep, yak, reindeer or mares

I've never heard of a tribe living almost exclusively off of reptiles/amphibians/insects even though I know people throughout the world do consume all of the above.

Hey everyone, I'm trying to find some records for my dad about a pilot who died in WWII. From the info my dad is giving me, his name is Pearson (possible Person), Gregg. However, Gregg may have been his commanders name. He was either in the Navy or AAF, as he was a pilot who was killed at what seems to be the Battle of Coral Sea. Dad's certain he was flying with his squadron and was attacked/ambushed by Japanese Zeros. Looks like he was stationed on whatever ship came before the Lexington, so the "Fighting I". This for me points to Navy. He was killed in 1942 for sure.
