Prince Estabrook was a slave who not only participated in the skirmish on Lexington Green on April 19, 1775 but was also one of the men wounded. How did this come to be? Why did Prince Estabrook's master, Benjamin Estabrook, allow him to not only be armed but also part of the militia? Do we know the opinion of his fellow militiamen of an armed slave amongst them? How did the participation of a slave in the militia come about in Lexington as opposed to Concord where slaves were effectively shut out of the militia (or rather, perhaps, as Robert A. Gross writes: "Concord had no desire to enlist them for war")?

I'm currently listening to Judt's postwar audiobook. I'm half-way to the end, and without having read anything else about that era it seems really interesting. However, I can't help but wonder what are the main criticisms from other historians against the narrative offered in the book (I'm guessing that there should be some).
