I know the dates for the start of the Iron Age differ by region, but let's take, for example, Europe, the Aegean and the Near East circa 1200-1000 BC. What would have happened when armies armed with iron weapons faced off against those armed with bronze weapons? From what I understand, early iron-working was of very poor quality. What innovations would have led to it superseding bronze for use in tools and weapons?

Was the adoption of iron uniform throughout specific regions, or were there holdouts that continued to use bronze well into the start of the Iron Age, despite almost certainly being familiar with the use of iron? Basically, I'm interested in all information about how the transition period between the Bronze and Iron ages played out.

I recently interviewed a WW II veteran who claimed to have served with the 101st from normandy to the end. However once i started googling his name, I found him listed a member of the 56th Armored Infantry Battalion. Is this man lying to me, or am I simply very confused? Is there a place i can look to see the roster of both the 101st airborne as well as the 56th Armored Infantry Battalion?

The only reason we can even read Egyptian Hieroglyphs is due to the Rosetta Stone with translated it into Ancient Greek. But what about more personal words like names and places. How do we know the glyph of a sun shining on a winged beetle equates to Khufu and thats its even pronounced like that?

If for example the Anglo-Saxon were to meet a German or even a Saxon or Angle from Germany, would that be a conversation piece?

They certainly had the military prowess, and diplomatic capabilities (they helped open Japan in 1853, and China through the unequal treaties). Was it because they were still consolidating their domestic territory?

Though they were a little disunited and a minority, so was the CCP in China when they attempted to gain support - I understand that in China they had time in Yanan to consolidate their power base, but the White Guard had foreign forces to help. Why didn't they win?

I know very little of what happened outside of Rome but I'm sure that there must have been other cultures that impressed Rome. Are there any good examples for that?

Hello, for a long time I've been wanting to learn about classical Greek history. What would you recommend as good broad, or interestingly specific books to check out?

It occurred to me that there is roughly a century between the War of 1812 when the two countries were enemies and WWI when the US and the UK fought as allies.

I understand that a century is a really long time but I'm curious exactly when these nations ended up on speaking terms. At what point did the US and the UK become allies and/or friendly?

I started thinking about the stereotype of the large american car, which I'm guessing is a result of rather spacious roadways in the US compared to many other countries around the world.

Is this simply a matter of geography? Or was there something else behind the development of wide US roadways and wide US automobiles? Does it have anything to do with US cities and infrastructure still being developed as the age of the automobile was starting? (compared to say, tightly knit communities in Italy/Japan?)

Today, the U.S. and Britain seem to be the closest of allies, but I imagine there was a lot of resentment after the Revolutionary War. How did we begin to mend the damage done? How did we eventually come to be such close allies?
