Of course many Mayan books and records were destroyed by the Spanish, and there are countless archaeological sites that haven't been excavated or even found yet, but right now our knowledge of the Maya is quite limited, only deciphering most of the glyphs relatively recently. So I ask the question, do we know anything about their practices in warfare beyond basic weapon knowledge? How big were their battles? Did they practice total war or more ceremonial? Were the average Maya citizens called upon to form an army? What notable Mayan military leaders are there?

I am trying to research the court life of Renaissance France and the way Dueling grew as a practice from it.

I am an atheist brought up as a Christian who had always presumed that Egypt did have jewish slaves that left in exodus but exaggerated it.

Today I came across Israel Finkelstein a jew in Israel and his archaeology not finding any evidence supporting that jewish people where slaves or the exodus even happened.

I am really curios as to what other people with a knowledge of history have to say I have read the rational wiki but want to know more

It seems like these days it's pretty much the norm for most people to suffer a moderate amount of allergy issues every year, to the point where it's weird and enviable if your body isn't bothered by pollen. We have an entire industry dedicated to allergy relief now, but 100, 500, or 1000 years ago, were springtime sniffles just as normal? What was done to control them?

I hear a lot of "bro history" facts that may or may not be true. One of them is that a reason the American army was so successful against Germany's is that American units could make decisions for themselves whereas German units had to wait for instructions constantly. Is there any truth to this?

Hi guys, which are good sources of unbiased history books? Since we know, history is written by the winners. How can I (as an amateur historian wannabe) even begin to sort all the truthful information from the rest?

Is English the best source? Would it help learning other language like Greek, or Latin?

I love history in general, but I’m more passionate about Mexican history (since I’m Mexican).

For example, in Mexico, Benito Juarez and Miguel Hidalgo are venerated as the best Mexican heroes, and my general Porfirio Diaz is practically forgotten.

My questions would be:

1. How can I decide which books present history as close to as it really happen?
2. Books on Mexican history? (since the 1400’s)
3. Any comprehensive book (or series of books), detailed, about general world history?

Besides other Nations were wealthy individuals interested?

I know it was a terrible thing, but did we actually end up learning anything useful or anything true at all we didn't previously know?

I just watched Empresses in the Palace on Netflix -- it remembers me of Zhang Yimou's Raise the Red Lantern. Something that really interested me was the eunuchs taking parts and joining plots at the imperial harem -- don't know if this is the right word and probably it isn't. But since I don't speak any mandarim, I used the term that was on the subtitles.

So, my questions is: how influential were eunuchs during the Qing Dinasty and did they really participated in the concubines plots? There were this kind of sophisticated plots or it's just television?

I am a writer and know I need to do loads more research, but I have a character in my novel who fought for the Commune and managed to (barely) survive and escape during the repression that followed. I know that many Communards fled abroad to avoid being executed or imprisoned. What I haven't come across yet in my research is the logistics of how they managed it. My character is in a similar situation to Elisabeth Dmitrieff (though French instead of Russian) in that she fought, was injured* and yet managed to escape. What are some good ways to make this plausible? *These wounds are fairly minor, can be concealed and she is mobile, however it is clear she was a combatant and would likely be executed if caught.
