Currently doing research on my family tree.
The furthest back I have managed to go was a Captain Edmund Blackadder, who apparently served in the trenches of the Western Front in WWI without ever seeing combat and then vanished from records after an order to attack just hours before the Germans would officially surrender.
Does anyone have any more infos on him or even any idea how I could track my history further back? I have absolutely no idea how to do this best. Any help is appreciated!

As you may have noticed, technological progress in the Third Age seems to be at best stagnant, at worst declining. Constantly wonders of the past are mentioned, which cannot be be recreated any longer, for example the construction of Orthanc, the outer walls of Minas Tirith, and the Palantiri. At the same time, those who try to innovate, like Saruman, are vilified. Is Elvish suppression the reason for this stagnation? Elves, while also weakened, still seem vastly superior in many areas and all Elves live at least somewhat comfortable. Compare that to men. Numenor at its height was vastly superior, but over the course of the Third Age its successor states slowly fall in disrepair and men go back to live in wooden shacks (see Bree).

It's obvious today that the Irish nationalist, Scottish talk of independence(where England had to increase autonomy a lot to reduce unrest) and even Wales and Cornwall. I understand that using bird points is expensive at least compared to using it to further colonization. So why just ulster, Wales and Cornwall ? Wouldn't it be better to convert all of Ireland as well, and Britain probably had some points to spare during the napoleonic period to at least prepare them for the Victorian period. I'm just wondering why the historical intelligence of British was the way it was. Great subreddit guys, keep up the good work!
