Sorry if this is worded confusingly. From this novel, it basically seems like Japan was 'taking over' the U.S. (at least the West coast) through their corporations' policies. If people were worried over this 20 years ago, has it happened already? And was the mainstream U.S. worried about this?
I think there are interesting parallels with the 'yellow peril' scare that people are having over China's increased strength nowadays. I'm under 30 so I wasn't alive during this period.

I'm currently studying the relationship between Hispanic Americans and the Democratic Party and it came to my attention that prior to the 1970s and 80s, Texas was politically primarily a Democratic state, much to my astonishment. In my short lifetime, Texas is often caricaturized as the wild frontier of gun-toting, hardline Republicans. Now while I know this is far-fetched itself, and that the actual modern political culture is much varied in Texas, it still seems to be a decidedly Republican-leaning state, despite it's historically pro-Democrat leanings.
What do sources link the major switch of party affiliations to, and why did this happen? Also, tangentially, are there any other major historical party switches in other states that my brief awareness has left me ignorant of?

By euquak footing I meant that the Chinese and India economy was similar pre-1980s with India seemingly a big better than China at that time. Also how much does it have to do with the political systems each country has, and is it case of democracy vs captalistic socialism in developing states? (tbh I don't know what China is anymore :P)

Lots of bands in the 70s and 80s employed a horn section. I love funk, so I love horns, and I've noticed a trend where the saxophone gets it's own solo parts in a song (Superfreak by Rick James, Turn the Page by Bob Seger). I've also seen quite a few live shows where the sax player receives a disproportionate amount of applause. Clarence Clemons and Kenny G are arguably more well known than a lot of guitar players. Is there any reason for the rise of the sax, and can we trace the history of it?

This tiny photo was in the belongings of my grandmother who died a few years ago along with a variety of other photos, mainly to do with my grandfather serving in WW2.
They lived in England but I know he served abroad in Belgium and France which may explain the French (I think) writing on the signs.
Any idea where this could be or what could be happening?

I find it unlikely that they would have not put in some safe guard to prevent something like someone from robbing a bank in Germany (hypothetically) and then going to France where German law enforcement has no jurisdiction. Did they create European police force? Or am I wrong and German police could go into France to catch a criminal that committed a crime in Germany in this hypothetical?

First of all I'm sorry if this subreddit is the wrong place to ask, I couldn't think of a better one to get an informed answer.
"Scarborough Fair" is a ballad of medieval origins in which two separated lovers give each other various impossible tasks to complete in order to prove their love for the other. The best known version was maybe recorded by Simon & Garfunkel in 1966.
In each stanza the four herbs are mentioned as a sort-of refrain, and my question would be if there's any significance about them from the viewpoint of the middle ages. I've read different interpretations that range from birth control to medicine used against the plague, or are they actually just random household herbs? Do you have any informed insights?
