How organized and mighty was the ancient Sumerian military?

In my global history course in school we touched very briefly on the Sumerians. Talking about things such as their use of bronze/copper, chariots, and social class system, but nothing was really detailed. Ziggurat here, priest there, done. So how powerful were they and what kind of conflicts did they get into? Was Ur advanced for its time or right where it should have been? I have a great interest in this subject, and would love to know more.

Was post-WWII Russia in a improved or worsened state than pre-WWII Russia?

In WWII, Russia seemed to suffer great causalities, such as massive loss of population, starvation, and destroyed land. Despite this, they then went on to become a powerhouse, being able to support and infiltrate countries to spread communism, fighting off the U.S. the entire time. This makes me wonder, did WWII leave Russia as a strong or weak nation?

Post-Civil War, How were the Confederate Soldiers treated in terms of pension, health care, respect, etc?

Title pretty much sums it up. I'm curious if the United States provided pension/health care/other needs to the surviving veterans or if that was expected of the Southern States.

Why did the Framers of the U.S. Constitution reject a parliamentary-style government?

I've been wondering about this some lately (mainly lamenting the two-party duopoly here). The modern political side of things isn't what I'm looking for, of course.

On the one hand, it's my understanding that the colonial legislatures were closer in form to how the U.S. government formed under the Constitution, so was it simply a matter of applying those to the federal system? Was a more UK-style parliament ever considered?

Besides word roots, are we able to identify similar cultural traits (épos, religious practices, etc.) found both in Europe and Iran/India that we can ascribe to common "Indo-European" heritage?

I am aware that IE is a huge family, and that there have been communication between the two extremities of this territory that may have lent cultural traits (especially because of Islam and colonization), but I was wondering if there is any practice, story, whatever that we can say something among the lines "this is common both in Ireland and in India, and we think it's because of IE".

Sorry if this question appears confused.
