more specifically, what law was signed into effect that changed it so that employers didnt have to pay their tipped employees anymore?

So prostitution is commonly called the oldest profession in the world. How did prostitutes avoid pregnancy in the days before cheap, reliable condoms and birth control? It would seem without some form of contraception that they wouldn't last very long as prostitutes.

Example: In Braveheart, the battle of Falkirk, they showed the field strewn with bodies and weapons. Would they collect the weapons and leave the bodies for the animals? Burry their own soldiers? Send the enemy soldiers back to the enemy for burial? Leave everything? I guess it will depend highly on the era and cultures at war, but any information would be great!

All through school I feel like I was basically taught that the Nazi's came to power as a result of how harsh the treaty of versailles was and the general unrest and uncertainty (mainly economic) of the 1930s.
Is this pretty much the scholarly consensus as well? Were there any other important factors?
Thanks

I know of 'shell-shock' occurring during WWI, but are there well documented instances of PTSD like symptoms from before WWI?

Basically -- and I truly cannot find a better or more apt analogy -- it would be like a slave-owner "rescuing" slaves, like someone rescuing a dog from a shelter, knowing that the dog would be put down otherwise.
For example, a well-off family hates the idea and practice of slavery. They know that certain slaves will be owned eventually, without their intervention. So, the family takes it upon itself to purchase those slaves to save them from that eventual slavery. Of course, these families wouldn't subject their "slaves" to slavery, but treat them as equals and as permanent house guests, more or less.
Were there documented cases of this?
If so, how common or uncommon was this?
How was this practice viewed by the local and regional communities?
Were there any laws against this?

Hey folks! I'm not sure you get many fashion related questions, but who knows?
I'm working on costume design for a show, and I'd like to know the reasons one would wear a corset, who normally would, and were they usually upper class or what? Google isn't helping me much. When I have similar questions about certain articles of clothing, are there any suggested resources I could look at? Thanks!

I've read that Charles XIV John of Sweden never learned the Swedish or Norwegian language while ruling over his people, so did he have a translator come with him whenever he delegated affairs. I know that some of the aristocracy spoke French, but surely not all of them did and some sort of translation would be required?

In particular, the pyramids of Egypt and European cathedrals have been standing for centuries and millenia without collapsing. That can't be from dumb luck. Are they over-engineered?
Edit: algebra and calculus.

At least, I think I do. I know very little about Mongolia and my Google searches have only given me general details. I think I'm just asking the wrong questions, so I thought I'd ask you guys for assistance.
I specifically want to know what the life of an average Mongolian nomad was like from childhood to adulthood, male and female. What their day to day activities were, what their coming of age was like, what they were expected to do with their lives, etc. I would love if someone could suggest any books or articles that cover these subjects. Thank you!

Recently, some of my friends read a book about how ancient texts, like the bible and sanskrit texts or what not, have been mistranslated (so far so good). Apparently many of the original writings actually described flying spaceships and beings from the sky with breath masks and life-support backpacks on. They say that back then, obviously, such words didn't exist and so it was lost in translation (i.e. being subsequently replaced with "God"), but reanalyzing the originals would provide this possible interpretation.
Now, I firmly believe this to be an entirely ridiculous notion and I can't wait to see this crazy book and all its flawed reasoning myself, but my friends are currently stuck on this hopeful fantasy that there previously were aliens on earth, etc...
I'm sure the pyramid and 'gods from the skies' similarities have very reasonable and well studied anthropological and historical explanations, so if anyone could provide me with those, that'ld be great.
Also if anyone has already encountered the 'ancient texts describing space-men' theory and has had to deal with it, some more info on its origin and what validity there is to the new translation bit would be awesome.

While this may seem rather trivial (because it is), BUT does anybody know the name of Lenin's cat, if any? I heard the story that he did not name his cats, due to naming implying ownership - a bourgeoisie concept. However, I cannot find a source or even a definite answer. Thanks in advance.
