What were some major Axis intelligence victories?

I have read the previous threads in this subreddit regarding why the Allied intelligence agencies were superior, but I can't find good examples of huge Axis intelligence victories similar to Midway or British intelligence efforts leading up to D-Day. Were there any Axis intelligence victories of similar import?

Question about Jewish holidays

Hello /r/AskHistorians,

I've got a question about Jewish holidays. The stereotype is that they're all gloomy days of mourning. Is that true? Are there festive days in the Jewish ritual calendar? What are their histories? Thanks!

I just learned my great great (etc.) grandfather was Sir Richard Waller of Groombridge, capturer of Prince Charles, Duke of Orleans, in the Battle of Agincourt. Where can I find a good source to learn more about him?

I know the battle was won by archers, I would be curious at his role in the battle. Would there be much written about him?

I found an article in an old issue of Air & Space magazine at the library about the A4 Skyhawks used at Top Gun as aggressors. The Skyhawks were so maneuverable that trainees almost never won their first encounter with one. What tactics were they using to be so deadly against more advanced fighters?

The article mentioned that the Skyhawks were dramatically lightened by stripping out hard points and weapons to improve maneuverability. Did these planes sport any other custom modifications?

(Possibbly NSFW) During medieval times, what was considered the worst possible punishment for someone who committed a crime?

Just listened to Dan Carlin's "Prophet's of Doom." Very interesting, if you haven't heard it already I highly recommend it, along with all the Hardcore History podcasts.

Well, I won't spoil it for anyone, but it got me wondering. Dan says that the punishment that was dealt to the captives at the end of the podcast was basicly the worst possible punishment you could receive in medieval times. Is this true? Were there other's comparable to the executions in Munster in 1536? It's hard to imagine anything worse, but if history has taught me anything it's to never doubt how creative humans can be when it comes to killing other humans.

How did the British Empire handle the dissemination of information across the empire? How did they manage centralised rule over the globe?

I'm primarily interested in finding out how the Empire itself was structured in order to allow for quick and effective responses to issues that may effect a region, during an era where communication was relatively slow and the empire so widespread.

How common were European pastries in tropical colonies?

I was watching 12 Years a Slave the other day (I know, it's in post-colonial times, but I wanted the rhyme) and I was surprised to see macarons being eaten on a Georgia plantation. If you've ever tried making macarons, you'll know that they can be quite tricky to make. If you've ever tried making macaron during the hot, humid summers of the South, you'll know they're practically impossible to make.

This got me wondering about how common some of Europe's (read: France and Italy) finest and popular pastries were in the tropical or near-tropical climates where many plantations were located. Did plantation owners have amazing pastry chefs in their employ, did the very rich just import them, or did Steve McQueen lie to me and there were no macarons on plantations?

Can anyone help me identify the year of a photo that was taken of my great grandfather likely serving in the Austro-Hungarian Army?

Image below, the bottom part of that image is the back of the photo, with some hard to distinguish numbers and "Sarajevo" at the top. I think it might read 1930, and if it does, I don't think it's the date the photo was taken. http://i.imgur.com/fDkYJ57.jpg
