Why did Mohammad Reza Shah refer to Ayatollah Khomeini as Indian?

Did he do it because Ayatollah Khomeini wrote poetry and signed them Hendi?

Or did he do it to play on Iranian fears of some sort of British conspiracy?

Or another reason?

In history, were there any famous singers/songs with words during the era of baroque/classical/romantic music?

I know there are a bunch of folk songs and opera and what not and I'm probably missing something super obvious (sorry if I am), but were there singers/songs as famous as people like Mozart/Bach? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

The Paris Commune and its role in larger radical left history?

Greetings historians! I am a senior finishing my BA in history. My senior thesis is going to concern the Paris Commune, as that is where a majority of my general research was done last semester for another class. I believe the best way to sum up my thesis is to say I am studying the role the Paris Commune had on anarcho-marxist relations. I think its fascinating the Commune is such a key point to both branches of ideology, yet the actions of the Commune eventually led to the 1872 meeting of the First International in the Hague where the anarchists were removed from the Internation.

I was hoping for two things from you. First, your thoughts on the topic itself and if I should maybe modify it? And second, what primary sources do you recommend for this topic?

My history teacher gives a very biased perspective on some things. How can I supplement my class so that I'm learning a more accurate history?

The textbook is not very in-depth in comparison to the lectures. His class is purely based on his lectures and I've realized that they're riddled with conjecture and his personal feelings stated as facts and I feel like I need to fact check all of my notes. The class is on Asian History (with a focus on India, China, and Japan) which I'd really like to learn about but I feel like this class is detrimental to learning.

He's referenced the Bible as a relevant text every day so far.

Old photo detective resources

Not sure if this is the best subreddit for this.

Is there any way to infer the rough year or decade of this old photo that has been passed down. There is no date on it, making difficult for us to put names to all the faces. http://imgur.com/6jetjxg

Is it possible to place this photo either in the mid 1860's or mid 1880's based on the dresses worn by the women and children? The family lived in 19th c. Nova Scotia. The head of the family an Irish farmer and the story goes that he (or his father) had previously been indentured. One of the children in the photo appears to be mulatto. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a common consensus on what constitutes the end of a revolution or revolutionary period?

In countries like the United States, there is a particular time period which, if not unanimously and precisely, can be generally referred to as the American Revolution. Certainly no one would say that the current government could be referred to as revolutionary. However, I commonly hear of countries such as Iran and Cuba which consider themselves to still be revolutionary and in which individuals can be prosecuted for opposing the revolution. How is it that these countries can call what has essentially become the entrenched form of government revolutionary? Is it a misnomer or is there a particular definition of which I am ignorant that allows for a regime which is more than half of a century old too be considered revolutionary?

How did Carl Vinson conclude that aircraft carriers were the backbone of a modern Navy as early as 1940?

I was reading the Wikipedia page on the Two-Ocean Navy Act (1940) which focused production on carriers at the expense of battleships. Rep. Vinson said, "The modern development of aircraft has demonstrated conclusively that the backbone of the Navy today is the aircraft carrier. The carrier, with destroyers, cruisers and submarines grouped around it[,] is the spearhead of all modern naval task forces."

How did Vinson know this in 1940? I was under the impression that carriers only gained supremacy in the eyes of policymakers and leaders after Pearl Harbor, Coral Sea, and Midway. Clearly Vinson already considered battleships inferior to carriers before those engagements and the evidence was sufficient for a unanimous vote by the House to approve the act. What evidence existed at the time?
