I've written history essays before but the research phase always seems so inefficient, I'm looking into too much information with no real results. How can I be certain that the information I find is actually legitimate? Edit: I'm primarily researching Indian history.

I think it’s pretty widely accepted that this is what happened to him, but there are also convincing arguments that he escaped Berlin. The show ‘Hunting Hitler’ has claimed that the skull fragment in Russia is actually that of a woman, and not Hitler, which is what was always claimed.

Hitler certainly had the means and avenues to escape, and also the means to destroy any evidence of his body after his death. So it leads me to the question, does any evidence exist of his body that was recovered from the bunker?

As the title says. What kind of theories did they have as to what caused them and what part, if any, did they play in their mythologies?

And I do know that they were not a monolithic people so there's probably hundreds of answers to this question so I'm looking for just a few examples here.

Israel was the clear winner of the 1948 war and the six-days war, and all other wars when it was Israel against all. Why?

Was it about Israeli numbers (being able to mobilise a larger force), or better organization or equipment, or post-WW2 motivation? Or probably the Arab coalition was not as committed to the war effort? Or it was sheer luck?

What made a country with a population of about 1.5 million prevail over countries with combined populations of more than 40 million?

Maybe it's just me, but I have rarely seen any reference to how historians determine written ancient fiction from non fiction, apart from the obvious myths (Greek Gods, for example).

How do we know that what we have as reference is not fiction, fantasy or artistic expression?

What about ancient cultures performing rituals for pure entertainment rather than religion, like how modern culture has massive non religious events like Burning Man or Coachella?

What if certain events are just stories written with a political or religious agenda, and never actually occurred?

What about motivations to like parody or humor?

If so, were there any noteworthy differences from contemporary American superheroes? (Note: I don't mean Stalkhanov-style "real" workers who did amazing things, but explicitly fictive characters like Superman.)

So I’ve been trying to learn some more about the Iroquois and Mohawk in particular because my grandfather was from a Quebec Mohawk tribe but we had no contact with him in my family since 1969, so I’ve been doing a lot of reading in my personal time.

I had always heard that The Great Peacemaker and Hiawatha had teamed up to unify the nations. But I saw that The Great Peacemaker supposedly lived and died during the 15th century, and that Hiawatha was alive solely in the 16th century. Did I misread something? Are the dates that I came across wrong?

How much dissent was there in Germany. Were citizens truly ok with the nazi's actions or was it more fear that kept them in check ?. How common was speaking out against Hitler or the government in general.

Just trying to get an idea for life during the long months of a siege.

Obviously once food starts getting low and people start getting desperate things change but to start with, is life relatively normal?

Nowadays it is common to come across opinions like: “It is 21st century, why do some people still believe in an almighty man in the skies?” and if you will ask if someone believes in Zeus or that someone is a descendant of gods, you will get strange looks at the very least.

With advancement in philosophy and science in general, were there any people with similar thoughts in ancient civilizations such as Greece and Rome. That is, persons who denounce the usual pantheon of gods not because of transitioning to other religion, but because they thought: “This is stupid. Why do we even believe in men on Olympus?”

It seems (maybe only for me) that many ancient civilizations take astronomy very seriously. Like Egypt, China, Aztec and so. But why it so important for them? Did it only religious or it have more immediately practical use? Thanks.

Just a quick question. Evidence or sources would be helpful. When did the world find out about the Schlieffen plan? Could it have been a contributing factor towards the willingness of the world to go to war with Germany? I can't find anything online.

Why no colonies? It seems like it would have had great access to the new world. Was it unable to or unwilling to be a player in the new world?

On the passing of my grandfather I received a large quantity of papers, letters and photographs from his time in the Pacific. As a survivor of the Bataan Death march his story seems to remain relatively untold and none of these items have been accessible to the academic community for analysis. What is the best way for me to make these documents available to historians who would like to access them?

Edit: I realize that I could donate them to an archive but as a student studying history I have found the difficulty and expense of retrieving materials that arent local to be a hindrance and wanted to provide them free and easily accessible.

How do you know that your discoveries are true (or likely true)? Do you use statistics or just common sense?

I’ve heard some claims that Gandhi was racist against whites and had instigated a race riot which killed an American named William Dohortey. How true are these allegations?

I was told by several experts that a wood shield works a lot better because the wood doesn't transfer the force into your arm like a metal shield would. but if thats true, why were bucklers made of metal?

Would they have lived in forts or castles? What would be the basic architectural design of their residences? Would they have lived in one place for long periods of time or moved residences? Did they live with their families?

Communist states are known to be anti-religion. If one looks at the Wikipedia demographics page of all the post-Soviet states, however, one could see that most of the population still follow a religion. However, in China, most people are atheists. So, why wasn't the USSR able to stamp out religion while China was?
