Say you are in modern-day Great Britain, all your life, you've lived under the Roman Empire and one day, you're told that the Roman Empire was no more. What would the general thought process be in the wake of such collapse around the Roman Empire?

I was watching a video featuring British historian Andrew Roberts, where he claims “By 1914 Wilhelm believed Germany should not only dominate europe, but the entire world and had the Schlieffen plan worked Germany most certainly would have.” For all I’ve studied I’ve never seen anyone claim this was actually Germany’s aim during the war. Is this an accurate representation of Germany’s ambitions or is he being dramatic? By world domination is this simply a reference to growing Germany’s sphere of influence?

I've read my textbook which says that the English King Henry the III gave up all other English lands except for Gascony and swore loyalty to the French king. I don't understand his reasoning though. Wouldn't giving up these lands and being a vassal of the French reduce how much power his kingdom has? Why would he do this?

I am a big fan of Eastern warfare. One particular aspect I enjoy about them is the katana. I’m under the impression they aren’t as “good” as typical Western sword but I like them because everything about them seems so artistic and they make a beautiful weapon.

Now, my question is, if you made Western swords using the same technique and traditional methods of katana makers would it be more beneficial or harmful to the western swords? Any further context would be appreciated.

Early and Late middle ages makes sense but why do we call the middle part "high"? Was it a golden age for Middle Age kingdoms?

So I've always wondered this since I learned about Joan of Arc in grade school. IIRC, she was an illiterate girl whose only real education was in Catholicism. After apparently hearing the voice of God telling her that she's destined to lead France to victory, she convinced then-prince Charles to give her an army to take back Orleans, and that she would install him as king. And of course, she succeeded in both endeavors.

Here's my question: in lieu her limited education and experience, did she actually fight in and lead an army/devise tactics for the battle to retake Orleans? Or was she simply "given credit" for political, troop morale, and enemy intimidation purposes?
