in 1868 when Andrew Johnson was impeached and nearly convicted, the office of Vice President was vacant; was there an established plan for what would happen after Johnson was removed from office? Was there a particular agenda? Was there controversy in one branch so dominating the government?

Additionally, Johnson is almost universally regarded as one of the worst Presidents in American history; have any historians made the case that the Senate made the wrong call acquitting him, and, if so, what does the case look like?

How did armour change with the advent of the firearm?

My knowledge of the early modern period is the best, so it seems to me (at least in Britain) armour suddenly changed from the great metal hulks of knights to pretty much just a cloth uniform, in the case of the redcoats. Obviously I know a few steps (and indeed centuries) are missing here, so I'm curious as to the relationship between different armours and the weapons of war. On a wider scale, what's historical armours relationship been to historical weapons full stop? How did a soldier's uniform change with the invention of the longbow etc.?

How much land and how many people was a typical medieval knight responsible for?

I've recently been trying to really wrap my head around how feudalism functioned, fundamentally. There are a lot of little details that get left out of the typical discussions, which seem to focus on the nobility and the manor house.

So basically what's in the title, how many people was a knight generally responsible for? And was he directly responsible for all of them, or were there people who he depended on to manage the more basic peasants? How large of a territory would a knight rule over? What would their personal home look like?

Why butning was a go-to method of execution for witches and heretics.

Burning was popular method of execution in Europe for heretics and practicers of magic, while in the same time it was rarer for murder, treason and other capital crimes. If Church ever supported it for either doctrinal or theological reasons what was that reasons? If not, what other traditions have caused it's usage?

I do not ask why certain people was\wasn't sentenced to the death, only why certain methods of executions have such strong association with certain crimes

Where did the 8.5 x 11 inch paper standard come from?

I always wondered, given its odd size. Not quite a foot on one side and 8 and 1 half inch on the other? Was there a reason for this? Or is standardize paper a relatively new invention?

Also why do legal paperwork demand a longer 8.5 x 14 inch? It doesnt seem to fit into any normal organizing cabinet.
