Does anyone have the original manuscript? If not, do we know what happened to it? The text makes a big deal of the “aura”—the authenticity—of the pre-reproduction original of any work of art. So—unlike most texts—the essay makes the case to value itself in its original form.

I’m mainly wondering about the frequent strikes and protests in France, while it seems frowned upon and downright illegal here in Switzerland. What historical events could account for such a difference?

Hi all. I recall seeing two books in my professor's office titled something like "Rome and it's Empire". I have tried tracking them down but so far have turned up nothing. I realize that there isn't much to go on here but I was wondering if any of the Roman mods might be able to help

The natural habitat of the coconut palm, for the curious. While it's unlikely that the non-migratory African Swallow would have dropped a coconut in 10th Century England, it's conceivable that the Silk Road could have carried coconuts to Europe.

It's seen in documents over a long period of time and S sounds are sometimes written as an F or an S that looks like an F. What were the conventions on their uses? And when did it talk put of fashion?

I am interested in anything related to the transition between those times and cultures and how it happened.
I am trying to create a setting for a fantasy/scifi RPG and there is a culture that is largely based on vikings. I want to create a believable timeline that changes them much like history changed the vikings, but I don't understand how that change happened or what drove it. I know I could just make it up, but I enjoy looking into related history when I am doing this kind of thing, and my players seem to appreciate the parallels to reality I am able to add in.
I tried googling it, but I didn't really come up with anything I really understood.

Was it more peaceful? Was the Islamic world more tolerant and heading for reform? If foreign occupation didn't occur, would the world be better off? Any interesting articles/videos to recommend?

Lithuania was larger, stronger, and their king married the Polish queen during Poland's interregnum.
The only answer I could was that Lithuania wasn't considered the ruler of the PLC because it was a grand duchy, while Poland was a kingdom, but if that's the case, then it's just not fair. That would mean that Lithuania was shafted by history because of some useless rank that people could give themselves.

I'm curious as to if there are records of the backlash that I would expect to hear from a Presidential statement like that. Has anyone investigated and have insight into how the printed media and political adversaries responded to this speech?

With Stilicho traveling to Constantinople, how did his political enemies thoroughly convince Emperor Honorius that his faithful general was plotting to turn against him? Was he that paranoid? Do any letters or text exist that shed light on this? I imagine Stilicho pleaded his innocence, but is their any official text that examines the affair? It just seems like a rather abrupt end to the victorious protector of the Western Roman Empire. Him being half Vandal never seemed to bother anyone before, so was this even a factor?

I’m an American that recently immigrated to Canada and I’m dealing with very frustrating legal processes to get permanent residency. The fear that I won’t succeed and will have to leave is always on my mind. I have this picture in my mind of people in the 1800s, with no skills at all getting on a boat one day and randomly coming to a western nation and showing up, getting processed and finding a low skill job. When did this change?

I have been digging into historical construction techniques and I am unable to find a satisfactory, complete answer as to how people built foundations for their traditionally constructed homes before concrete was widely available. I am especially interested in American construction through the 1800s, but I would love to know about ANY foundation, including techniques for Cob houses, adobe, Scandinavian longhouses... If you have info, I'd love to hear it.
I am aware of the existence of padstones, timber sills, and post-in-ground construction, but information online is very sparse and there is virtually nothing on the maintenance of these foundations. It seems unlikely to me that people would work so incredibly hard to build these homes, but have no way to maintain the foundation by replacing sills/posts/etc. How were buildings lifted for repair work prior to hydraulic jacks? How far back have people manufactured screw-jacks?
Also, what methods did people have for dealing with infestations in their carpentry? Today we can remove carpenter bees/termites/etc with poison, but how would an ancient person have driven out those pests?
I realize I am requesting a LOT of info-- if anyone has book recommendations on construction techniques either pre-modern american or just construction in general going back to antiquity, I would be very grateful.

Hello, How are you all? Today I wanted to ask you about books you could recommend about the Naval Battles and the War At Sea in general during WW2. As a starter, which books could you recommend and maybe after one has read those which ones could you recommend for more detailed break downs. Thank you so much for reading, have a wonderful day!
