In the bible, there seem to be a lot of lessons that would advocate you being liberal, politically. However, in America it seems like the vast majority of Christians are republican, and I was curious as to if there was precedent in history that created this apparent one sided weightfulness, or if there was a movement that occurred.
So I've found this: http://www.pewforum.org/religious-landscape-study/party-affiliation/#belief-in-god-trend
Here, it appears that the majority of Christians are republican, at least within their party. I guess a better way of phrasing the question is "Why is it that Christianity dominates the republican party and not the others?"

I’m curious about how technology developed in the USSR during the Cold War, and the differences in how engineering projects were managed. Has anyone seen a good resource for this?

I know there was mass raping by soviet soldiers after they defeated Germany. But how often german soldiers raped soviet women during WW2? How Nazi high command treated such acts? Were rapists punished? Where and when the cases of raping by german soldiers were the most frequent?

20% of the Roman male population had been killed in the 3 previous battles. Why didn’t he follow up a devastating defeat by taking advantage of Rome's weakened state and panic by laying seige to the city?

From what I understand race theory wasn't created, or at least popularized, until the Enlightenment Period, so how were different skin colors viewed and discussed in Medieval times? Was there still a factor of racism or was it just not paid attention to that much?

To expand a bit on my question: Are there any records of the MI6 (and/or other entities, e.g. the CIA or NATO), in connection to their role in this period of civil unrest in Italy?
I'm aware that Western and Soviet governments influencing politics in foreign countries was just business as usual during the Cold War (and beyond).
The reason I ask this is that I noticed the MI6 being listed, on Wikipedia, as a supporter of the right-wing side of the conflict, listed among Italian organizations that are pretty shady, to say the least. But I couldn't find anything online to support this entry on Wikipedia. The entry's annotation is just this relatively obscure information, with no references: "Writer's name 'leaked' to NF". The Guardian. 1990-01-31."
Will appreciate any replies shedding some light on this, and the post-WWII Italian troubles and how the Western powers involved themselves.

Although the song is now considered a gay anthem, with a heavy homosexual undertone, the lyrics are nothing but praise to the organisation, so I wondered how the association reacted to it.

Were soldiers like the finely dressed Jannisaries or colorful French Musketeers really dressed fancy, or is this more akin to making soldiers prettier to look at for the paintings.
If they really did wear such fancy clothing, was it for identification purposes? Or morale purposes?

I am curious on how HRE institutions and political structures worked during its existence and how they changed during its lifespan. How did they pass laws, how did each kingdoms and dukedoms inside the HRE interact, etc.

I recently read Ninjas: 1000 years of the Shadow Warriors by John Man, which was interesting, but in talking about pop culture with a friend, one thing that came up that wasn't really mentioned in the book was the concept of Kunoichi (female ninjas) Do they have a basis in history or are they really just a modern pop culture fabrication?

Hello!
I was always curious how free were the peasants in a feudal society.
Where did the peasants live? Did they live around towns? How big were the towns? Did only wealthy merchants live in towns together with the noble guy who was in charge of the area?
Who policed the peasants? What if someone stole something from someone else?
How often did the noble guys come for taxes? Were taxes gives as goods or money?
In case of an enemy attack, were the peasants protected or did they have to flee to the forests or something? Or were they maybe recruited as army?
How did a peasant get land assigned to work on? Was it the noble's land, or was the land private peasant property, but they had to give a certain amount of taxes?
Were fields near towns? Were there remote villages with farmers? How were those villages connected with the main towns? Through travelling merchants?
How were towns guarded, compared to castles? Were one or the other a better tactical target for an invading force? I suspect a castle filled with soldiers was dangerous to go around, but then again, just going around it, cutting off supplies and setting a trap also sounds good.
Were the peasants usually killed by an invading force or were they kept alive so they can work for the new king once they have conquered the country?
Was peasantry a caste. Like, were peasants like slaves, and that was their life, or could they throw away the hoe, and go be a succesful merchant in the town, and buy themselves to a noble position?
Was each individual required to pay x amount of taxes, or was it calculated by the village size, or family size?
Could the "fief" noble guy work the peasants to the bone and require super large taxes, and keep the extra profits to himself, after he payed the king his share?
Could the "fief" guy become super rich, and buy himself an army, and become a military force big enough to threathen even the king?
Were the shakespearean "dukedoms" this "vassal", "fief" type of territory where nobles could rule over peasants independantly, but with loyalty to the king?
What did the peasant kids do? Did they play, or did they have to search for firewood or something? Did they have to make baskets? Did the peasants also do that kind of merchant stuff in that time, or did they just farm the land? Did they have pigs for meat and stuff?
I am very interested in how this stuff actually worked, so please educate me :P
Tnx!

My history professor told me that he read in a source somewhere that he was, but I could not find anything regarding his political views. Does anybody have an idea?

In Mayotte 63% votes were against independence, while the other three islands were all >99.9% in favor. Wiki shows only the results but no explanation.

I read Alessandro Manzoni’s The Betrothed, and in several places it mentions important magistrates wearing a toga in 17th Century Milan. Curious, I googled and discovered this book claimed the toga was actually required in the Grand Council in Venice during the same timeframe.
So did the toga regain popularity? If so, what was the reason? How did the ancient toga fit with their ideas of public service?

France is a nation that is impossible not to mention when talking about world history due to its power and influence all over the world.
As a country though, France is often known as cowardly for how they reacted/contended/were defeated in both world wars as well as other various wars.
Is this image of France true? As strong and dominant as France is — does this mockery have truth to it and is it justified?

If there is a link within the Kentucky Department of corrections that has the case files that would be excellent. I would also thoroughly enjoy any literature I could find on it. I am working on an essay of capital punishment and I wanted to highlight this event and the men executed.

The books had a red spine with golden letters, and they are at least 170 years old according to the workers, as are all of the other books in the collection, although they aren't available to the public.

I am looking for a book that explains political ideologies and their branches (because I find confusing how can there be a anarcocommunism and anarcocapitalism for example or a liberal libertarianism, liberal conservative, etc).
I know its probably a very hard question to answer with just one book. One if preferable, but more recommendations are welcome.
