So, context:
The church is the Dome/Cathedral of Lund.
The inscriptions were made in 1525 by the German mason Adam van Düren as he had finished his extensive renovation of the building.
Inscription 1: van Düren is apparently lamenting what an enormous task he just completed.
Pic. 2 The inscription on the "skin" in the middle of the picture apparently says (freely translated)
He is surely an ass/ Who takes upon him more than he can bear.
The inscription at the base of the pillar (under the sculptures) says
O Lord, what end will it bring, when we our own fragility do not comprehend.
Inscription 2: From the base of a pillar that now stands in the nearby museum connected to the Cathedral, here van Düren complements "GOD HELP" with "children of Adam" (in Latin letters). This inscription is a commemoration of a nearby battle/massacre during a peasant's uprising the very same year van Düren finished his work at the Cathedral.
GOD HELP the children of Adam; the beginning is easy, the end is arduous. When this was written in 1525, the Friday after s:t Mark's day, there was great lamentation in Lund; there over 1500 were shot dead and beaten; over that, the women of Skåne may wail.
Pic. 2 Close-up of the runic inscription.
So QUESTION:
Why runes? Seriously, why is "God help" written in runes?

From my extremely limited understanding of it, the Byzantines received some help from Genoa, but no other noteworthy country aided them.

I've seen a few documentaries about the Battle for the Atlantic and convoys and the various strategies that both sides used.
However- I haven't seen any details about the return trip.
Did the Liberty ships etc do a return trip? Were they carrying cargo? Were they targeted?

Also in the event of a "hot" war what was the Soviet or the NATO plan to deal with this?

I'm thinking along the lines of weapons and armor, function, daily life, history, etc. What accurate information exists concerning the famous unit? What are some common misconceptions, and the truths behind them? I'm asking purely out of academic interest.

My friend will not stop talking about it but I haven't been able to find any information that directly addresses it and disproves it. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. I'm about to start writing a large historical research paper for one of my classes, and I'm looking into writing about the "Clean Wehrmacht" Myth.
I'm asking for some resources about anything involving the myth (support, criticism, literature, reading, scholarly articles). I picked up the book "Soldaten: On Fighting, Killing, and Dying" recently and I have a couple of primary sources from the Wehrmacht such as "Seven Days in January" and "Black Edelweiss", so I think that reading these would be a good place to start.
Any relevant sources, primary, secondary, or commentary by historians would help tremendously.
One type of source that would be interesting would be a primary source from a member of the Wehrmacht that openly admits to war crimes in the organization.
Thank you!

I know that there's no "Celtic culture", but I am aware that archaeologists use it as a broad category.
I'm curious to know, however, if the Celts were actually an ethnic group that settled in Britain, or if the Bronze Age inhabitants of Britain simply adopted Celtic languages and practices.
As a follow-up, if the Celts did actually "arrive" in Britain, do we have any rough date for this?

Is there any record of children of this age completing the journey alone, as opposed to starting it out with a guardian who dies along the way ( which seems more plausible)? If so, is there any record of children such as Vito completing the journey alone with no one there to receive them at the other end?

I've been reading Nick Offerman's Gumption, great source for history I know, and was intrigued by his section on Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Voux. I was surprised at how the designers of Central Park and, essentially, the founders of urban parks are barely known in society. Why is someone like Olmsted and Voux so unknown when Wright and Gehry are so famous? Also, what would be some good reading suggestions about Central Park and Olmsted?

I can understand a party doing poorly 8 years after it did well in a presidential election, but what caused seemingly almost everyone in the country to switch parties? Sorry if this is a better question for r/Ask_Politics, and thanks in advance!
