Hello Historians! Im building a diorama at home of a stuka dive-bombing a convoy. What i ask you is this: what vehicles, tanks, etc were the French and British Expeditionary Force utilizing during the Battle of France / The Dunkirk Retreat? And what sort of order may they have been grouped in or what vehicle's may have been grouped together? If anyone knows of ground unit tactics or formations, that would be awesome too :)

We see democratic socialism throughout Europe now, how did it become so popular during the 1900's? The US, for the most part never bought into it like Europe did, what was the reason for that?

Would there be ceasefires to allow them to be buried? Forgotten? Very curious.
Edit: I am curious as to customs going from ww2 back up to ancient greece/egypt.

As I understand, actual membership in the Communist Party was restricted to a small minority of people in the Soviet Union. What did membership actually mean though?

The Commander-in-Chief of the army at the end of the Han dynasty, He Jin got his position through his sister being the Empress, however the He's came from a family of butchers so I was wondering how does the daughter of a butcher come to join the Emperor's harem, was this typical and then how was someone with no existing family power able to leverage their position to get their brother so rapidly and highly promoted?

Hi,
I'm working on a project that requires information on the development of individual small arms in this time period. Sources containing good information about either the history of individual weapons (particularly looking for information about the Egyptian Rolling Block, the Beaumont rifle, or the Austrian Werndl currently) or on trends/overviews would be appreciated.
I have spent some time on this, and purchased a few books that whiff by only a few years (such as a volume on Dutch Firearms that stops at percussion or an overview of Military Bolt Actions during the period but with only the simplest of information/lack of further sources).
The only potential pieces (are on the list to acquire) I know of thus far are these:
The History and Development of Small Arms Ammunition (Volume 2 - Centerfire: Primitive, and Martial Long Arms)
A treatise on the snider: The British soldiers' firearm 1866-c.1880, development, manufacture and issue of the snider rifles and carbines from 1862-post 1900
Any help or direction would be appreciated.

How did the various countries that have a somewhat to entirely public healthcare system transition from what was previously private healthcare?
I know many of the posters here have a specialty in specific countries and regions, so hopefully leaving this question open ended will allow for a diverse collection of answers based on the different areas.

Considering most of the landed gentry saw their incomes dwindle beginning in the 19th century, what became of them? Are they still mostly upper class but without as much wealth?

I've started watching Game of Thrones recently, and one thing I've been wondering about is if knights, advisors, royal guards, soldiers, etc. would really be so unwaveringly loyal to their vows and to their king. Was this kind of "honor" really more important than the well being of the people and such? If so, why did they put up with it?
Like if a crazy old king or a young boy were rampantly sentencing people to death or something, it seems strange that everyone would instantly obey

I have been watching documentaries on the Roman Republic/Empire with an interest on every day life lived by the Romans. I notice that they live in these apartments or even nice homes and shops were very common. How would people have secured their homes when they weren't there? Did they have locks or someone else who stays behind and keeps an eye on everything? I would think that these places would have made a target rich environment for thieves. Did they shop keepers just load up all of their merchandise and take it back home with them?

I have always had an innate interest in history and really want to start diving into it. I tend to have a long attention span, so I am fine if the content is not necessarily entertaining. Thanks so much for reading. I can't wait to hear your suggestions!

From what I have read the Italians failed to make much progress in attacking Austria-Hungary during the first world war and were eventually pushed back. Why was this?

The United States has had a navy vessel named Enterprise since the days of the Revolutionary War, nine ships in total. During WWII the Enterprise was the most decorated ship in the US Fleet, the first nuclear carrier was named Enterprise, the first Space Shuttle was named Enterprise, and they are currently building a new Ford Class carrier to be named Enterprise in a break from naming that class of ship after US Presidents. Finally, of course we know of the USS Enterprise being the flagship of Starfleet in Star Trek, one of the most popular SciFi series in history (which is why the Shuttle was named Enterprise...the origional name for the Star Trek ship was supposed to be Yorktown!)
So we can understand how in our current culture a ship named Enterprise has become such a quintessential American name for the pride of their fleet, but what about the other navies of the world? Do they have a ship name that is culturally tied to them and their best ships? If so, why exactly is it that name?

I doubt there's any legitimate link to Troy right? Is there any contemporary archeological evidence with the early king's of Rome like Numa Pompilius or Romulus himself?
