In WW2, how did mandatory conscriptions and draft work? What if you applied to become an Officer, or were training to become one, does your training stop immediately when you're drafted and you're shipped off in a low rank of Private instead of Lieutenant?

Very interested in how this works, for those who were educated and wanted to become Officers, did the draft/conscription force these trainee-Officers to stop their training and enter the War as lowly ranked privates?

What about medical students finishing their studies, when they were drafted, were they drafted into regular infantry, or were given the Officer training route to become Military doctors with a better pay and rank?

Epic of Gilgamesh in Cuneiform

I was trying to find the Epic of Gilgamesh in original writing (maybe cuneiform isn't the original writing system that was used?) and couldn't find anything. There are many translations, transliterations, and cuneiform exists in unicode as well. Technically, there isn't anything in the way of writing this text in digital (unicode) format in its original writing system. Did someone even attempt to do this. It doesn't have to be historically accurate as long as it's not syntactically incorrect as I was just looking for something to paint on the wall in my apartment.

Was there any mass immigration from Croatia to other places in the Balkans and middle Europe?

In many countries in the region (like Hungary, Serbia and Czechia) the surname Horvat or similar is very common. Was there ever a large scale migration from Croatia to this region? Is there any other reason why this particular surname is so common?

How many saw actual combat in BOTH World Wars

Simple question that's not so simple to answer... I was wondering if anyone has a decent handle on how many people saw actual combat in both world wars. A breakdown by country is of course more informative, but I can't even think of a decent way of doing this analysis short of dredging through millions of incomplete service records so I'm in the hands of anyone who answers...

Where in the world is Iberia?

So all this time, I thought "Iberia" was the name people use for pre-Roman Spain, but today I was researching saints. I came across "Ashot of Iberia", and thought "what a strange name for a Spaniard", but it turns out "Iberia" in this case is the Byzantine name for modern Georgia.

So my question is, who exactly are (were?) the Iberians? Why are there two places named Iberia, even though they're entirely different cultures and time periods? Were Iberians an actual peoples, or is it a term like "Barbarian"?

Was there a Chinese Emperor who would carve his own poetry or apply his seal to artwork he liked?

I was recently reading a novella by Brandon Sanderson, the Emperor's Soul, in the postscript he relates a story told to him by a tour guide that a particular Chinese Emperor was particularly fond of carving his own poetry or applying his seal to art he was particularly fond of. Is this true and if so which emperor was it?

Why did the draft become so infamous during the Vietnam war?(U.S specially)

In my opinion, I see it as a great duty that a civilian serve their country. Therefore I would be baffled by why so many U.S citizens protested the draft.

In the Rolling Stones song "Sympathy for the Devil", there is a lyric that goes "I shouted out/Who killed the Kennedys?/When after all/It was you and me". Was there any stigma around such references in music and TV, considering the song was released five years after Kennedy's death?

For what reason Britain sold palestine land to Israel?

According to one "historian" says that the Zionists led by Chaim Weizmann and the British government had negotiated that if they managed to have the United States join the British side in the First World War, then they would be given territory in Palestine, that is true or is only a farce invented by an pseudo historian.

How did the Church respond to the discovery of the New World which is never mentioned in the Bible?

The discovery of two new continents full of people must have caused ripples in the religious, not just political, sphere.

Edit: To clarify, I want to know if the discovery of the New World and what came immediately after (colonization, slavery and widespread missionary efforts) caused disagreements within the Catholic and/or Protestant Church. For instance if anyone disagreed with enslaving natives/slavery in general or sending able-bodied missionaries out who could do God's work back home in Europe, or anything else that might have arisen. Controversy arose over wars and royal divorces soo I find it hard to believe that running into the Americas was just shrugged off
