I suppose the fact that Augustus is the last censor mentioned (alongside Tiberius Julius Caesar) is a hint that the emperor assumed the role of overseer of public morality and other attributes of the censor's role. What about the census though? Were the duties spread amongst lower administrators or did its nature change completely? When did the practice stop altogether? The list itself is to be found here

I'm studying this particular area in history and found very little info online about different perspectives on this topic, can someone enlighten me or link me to some websites to find the controversies surrounding this revolution? Anything would be much appreciated :)
Edit: Asking for secondary sources like names of historians who would be arguing for a particular perspective or statements by the CCP/Government in Taiwan commenting on the Xinhai Revolution

This might seem vague, but I would like to understand how fire bombing became okay.

As in when did people begin to have an idea that we have old and historical traditions and heritage and we need to preserve and conserve them like as in how many countries today preserve their old national traditions and heritages.

We see it all the time in threads and as comebacks to comments disregarding it as legends/made up stuff. How true is it that he was actually a real person?

Did the South ever stand an actual chance of winning? If so at what times? In addition, if the South ever had good prospects of winning then what changed the tide against them? Thanks.

When you're in history class and you learn about these things it seems so obvious that they were bound to end badly. In hindsight it seems obvious that the powder keg in WWI was going to explode and that Hitler in WWII wasn't going to just stop invading countries, and the temptation is to think "how did people not see that coming," but obviously that's very different when you're living through it. So did they see it coming? Obviously not every single person thought the same thing but was there a general sense that something really bad was about to happen or did they just think it was business as usual?
The reason I am asking this question is in relation to people saying now that we're on the brink of WWIII. I'm not asking anybody to discuss, support, or deny this, but when I responded to a friend of mine that I don't actually think that's going to happen, he responded "that's what they said in 1913." So I was wondering if that was really the case. These are the two most recent cases of mass destruction so did people see the tensions and events as separate one-offs that would eventually resolve themselves or did they realize that the world was on the brink of disaster?

My grandmother is steadily losing her memory and I would like to ask her about her life while I still have the chance. The problem is that I do not really know how to interview her beyond "So, that Great Depression really sucked, huh?". I figured that professional historians would be trained in these matters so I come to you for advice. I already missed the chance with my other grandparents and don't want to miss this.
If more specific information is helpful, she was born on July 4th 1926 in San Francisco and has lived her whole life in the Bay Area.

What puzzles me about deniers is why would they think believers would lie about a tragic event? It's like lieing about my mothers death.... makes no sense to me

How difficult was it to get, say, American music during this time period? I've seen the film Peresepolis, which briefly discussed how it was easy to get banned music in Iran during a similar time period.
Was there a large demand for capitalist goods at this time in the USSR? How would most contraband be snuck into the Soviet Union? How could a country so large possibly protect all of its borders from illegal goods being snuck in? Were there any particularly successful, notable smugglers during this time period? Was the situation similar across the Soviet Republics, or were there differences?

In other words, has the academic establishment in the sciences cleaved to conventional wisdom in spite of new ideas/evidence, or have major scientists changed their minds?

My father and I were going through a lot of photos of the past and we came across an original and old photo of my great great great grandfather, might be missing a couple greats... All I can tell is that it had to be around the civil war era. Any info on his uniform would be great. I doubt there's any info out there on him specifically...

Hi all,
I've heard conflicting reports about this - but most of the evidence I had seen suggested that Hitler / Nazism was associated with christiantiy.
Then I saw this comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/Documentaries/comments/5jco99/dont_be_a_sucker_a_documentary_by_the_u_s_war/dbfawmg/
Which suggested disdain for Christianity, or at the very least Catholicism
