I read in a book that after the red baron died the allies flew over and dropped something that was a tribute the baron. Is this true?

How much was Plato using authorial license in his dialogues centered on Socrates? Did he merely refine already existing arguments of Socrates' or was Socrates mostly being used as Plato's mouthpiece here? A work like Republic is so meticulously thought out that it's not unfair to believe it wasn't just the product of some half-drunk conversation. Since Socrates was Plato's teacher, how much of what he actually said informs his character in Plato's dialogues, if at all?

One of the main causes for the war of 1812 was the British impressment of American sailors (for those who don't know, to impress means to force someone to join your crew). The war went on, it ended with an unofficial American victory at the Treaty of Ghent, blah blah blah.

But what happened to the impressed Americans? I can't find one historical document that answers this question, and it's been bugging me for a while. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I learned in history class that both Hitler and Mussolini won the popular support of their country by undertaking massive state run projects such as railroads, militarization and so on and so forth. However I also learned that both of these countries were experiencing major economic upheaval at the same time. How did get the funds to pay for these works if their countries' finances were in such dire shape?

I'm currently reading Peter H Wilson's account of the thirty years war, and he mentioned the German novel Simplicius as a ground eyes view of the war, my question is do we have an non soldiers account of what life was like from a lower class view?

I am reading up on the Boston Massacre, and one tidbit that I have read is that the whole event started with a group of boys harrassing a British soldier, and he, in turn, smacked one of them with the butt of his musket. Was this illegal? Should he have been on trial for this action alone?

Hi I am a medical student and today in clinic my preceptor told me the modern field of Orthopedics is actually rooted in German experiments during the Holocaust. Is there any truth to this? Also I have heard of the Japanese Unit 731, what did they discover. Were there any/ any other medical advancements made during WWII that are morally repulsive/would not make it past an ethics board today?

Honest question. It's been bugging me for 2 years now, and I just wanted to know if he got a set amount, or if he was able to receive free macaroni from a local market for a year, etc.

I understand that there were great differences between the Macedonians and the Achaian peoples further south, for example, Macedonians favoured cavalry (with Macedonia being less mountainous than southern Greece) in contrast to the Greek cities hoplite dominated style of warfare.

But did the Macedonians consider themselves "Greek"? And in turn, did other Greek cities consider Macedon to be part of Greece or a foreign culture?

Were the Macedonians able to participate in the Olympics? Did they share their southern neighbours attitudes to democracy, art and architecture and a disdain for Persians and other "barbarians"?

When I learned about the Great Schism it was presented as a breach over both icons and the role of the emperor in the church. So what role did the emperor play at this time and previously, what points of his authority were disagreed over between the Western and Eastern churches? And how was this role filled in the Greek church after the death of the last emperor?
