Can anyone suggest a website or other resource I could check to get political maps of the world at various times? Not necessarily maps published in particular years, just an idea of where borders were in particular years?

I asked this in an /r/politics thread talking about the DNC Chairwoman. Who said that "Super-Delegates exist to protect party leaders from grassroots competition".

Someone attempted to reword the phrase as "Superdelegates are there to avoid a repeat of 1968 and a disastrous convention. Yes, they've been asked about their preferences now, but when the time comes they'll go with whoever has the popular mandate." (/u/johnnynulty).

So what happened in 1968 that made Super-Delegates necessary?

Also I am curious, was education only for the rich or could poorer people also get access to at least a basic form of education?

My history textbooks were always really vague about this. They just threw in a sentence at the end of the Prague Spring about them withdrawing following the invasion of Czechoslovakia. It never said the reason, but I assume the Prague Spring had something to do with it?

• Is it the case that as Israel was founded to be a homeland for historically abused Jews, Liberia was founded to be a homeland for historically abused blacks/ex-slaves?

• Are the ideas behind them completely different, were they populated completely differently, are they different in the methods used to exist/run?

• If my motive behind the question is useful, I am curious as to what explains the difference in the "success" of the two countries since I assume they have similar reasons for being founded. I know that Liberia historically has a strong connection to the US as does Israel so I would think that Liberia could have received a large amount of US support as well.

• According to Vice "News," the ex-American slaves went back and "enslaved the native population," however looking it up this doesn't seem to be a lot of evidence to this?

As the stalemate of trench warfare dragged on, did the British/French or Germans ever consider landing soldiers behind enemy lines by means of a naval landing? How prepared would either side have been for such an attack? Did the technology even exist at the time to perform an operation of this scale?

Growing up in the Philippines, I was taught that the country was colonized by the US. I am now living in the US and the topic came up recently while I was chatting with one of my university professors. He said that their textbooks had always used the term "protectorate".

Now I'm wondering what the truth is. Did the US treat the Philippines as a colony under the guise of calling it a protectorate? Was the Philippines actually a protectorate but considered itself a US colony because it was suspicious of previous Spanish rule? Or is the truth somewhere in between, not quite a colony nor a protectorate?

This puzzles me because one can also be full of anger and grief. Or be fed up with it.

After reading Bunker Hill by Nathaniel Philbrick I became intrigued by the character of Joyce Junior. While not a main character in the book he was interesting enough for me to try and seek out more information.

There really doesn't seem to be any though. Can someone either point me in the right direction or shed some light on who he was and the impact he had on the early American Revolution?

A follow up: Is there a historical reason why the scientific revolution seems to be heavily concentrated in Western European countries like Britain, France, and Italy?

It seems to me that the progression of events were: Laws restricting movement and freedom of the Jews in Germany, internment into ghettos, relocation to labor camps, then mechanized killing. Obviously this is grossly over-simplified, but I wonder when, and by whom, the actual decision was made that the final solution would be to kill them all.

I am basing this entirely on what I saw in James Cameron's Titanic. Google has not helped.

In Titanic, we see that there were so few people near Murdoch's lifeboats that he launched them half full and even let men on board.

Meanwhile, at the other lifeboats, wee see that the situation was totally reversed, with men pushing towards the lifeboats and Second Officer Lightoller yelling at the men to stay back.

1. Why was that? Why were there so few people near Murdoch's lifeboats, and so many near Lightoller's?

2. Why didn't Murdoch send some crewmembers to Lightoller's side or anywhere else to bring more people to his lifeboats? Why did he send them down half-full?
