It came to my attention that Mohamed is a very common name for a Muslim yet I've never met a Christian called Jesus. Is there a story behind this?

Bureaucratically, how did it all go down?

When talking about this topic, many people commonly throw out the Book of Veles as it was proven to be a literary forgery. This, however, greatly limits my sources as most Slavic reconstructionist/neopagan websites I have seen continue to cite the text as a major source of their belief system. I also understand that the pre-Christian Slavs did not have a writing system, which obviously limits their ability to record their beliefs to at least the arrival of Christianity (since the Cyrillic alphabet was developed in the 9th century by Christians).

Are there any legitimate, reliable sources about the pagan practices of Slavic peoples? If so, are they written by Christians or by Slavs themselves? If not, is there any historical accuracy to Rodnovery (modern Slavic paganism) at all?

Am I wrong in presuming that the average baker wasn't exactly up to date on the hottest new sonatas?

I was just reading through the wikipedia entry on Charlemagne, and it said that the Pope did not consider Empress Irene of Constantinople to be legitimate, and thus the imperial throne was vacant at the time. I had always assumed that Charlemagne and later the Holy Roman Emperors were supposed to be continuations of the Western Emperors, but wikipedia made it seem that at least the Pope was hoping for a politically unified empire.

Now, as always with wikipedia, how accurate is that? Did Charlemagne ever attempt to assert that authority? What was the Byzantine reaction?

I'm having trouble finding books that cover the entire story. Why the American Colonies decided to separate, how they did it, the first battles and the last battles and everything in between. Ive read 1776 by David McCullough and while I enjoyed it, I'm now wanting an in depth analysis about how they got to that point and how Washington beat the British. Thanks for any insight!

I have to debate on the success of the Reconstruction after the civil war. My category was the economic successes of the reconstruction and I am having trouble finding any at all. Can anyone help out?

During the reign of Hadrian the empire relied heavily on their client kingdoms. After the Jews kept on revolting and draining Roman resources, why didn't they simply allow them to rule independently as client kings?

I understand there's a book of the same name related to the topic, which has made it rather hard to google, but despite describing how the early rural Ming eventually evolved into a commercial centre, I'd really like to understand what he meant by "confusions of pleasure." Of course, Bulgaria is a Slavic country today, and I've read that the Avars quickly adopted the local Slavic language as a lingua franca for their domain, and I'd guess it'd be likely that there would be a Slavic people going by the name "Avars" today were it not for the Magyars, who invaded the region a few centuries after the Avars. But what's odd is that the Magyars didn't adopt the local language, but instead replaced it with their own. Why was this so? Why did they differ from the other nomadic steppe peoples who had invaded the Balkan area before them?

All the literature I ever find is on ethnic nationalism, like in Europe, never anything about nationalism in a Multicultural nation like the United States of America, or the USSR. Or the various politically bound nationalities of Latin America.

The closest thing to that kind of civic nationalism I find is French nationalism, but that's still got a strong ethnic underpinning.

Can anyone give me a big infodump on this kind of nationalism?
