What made the Christian missionaries so successful in converting pagans and pagan rulers?

The immense growth of Christianity in times of polytheism is baffling as it is, but really I wonder how they were able to convince rulers such as King Olaf to abandon their pagan beliefs and violently enforce Christianity on their subjects.

I came across an infographic marking and comparing the battles of the crusades vs those of the muslim conquests, how accurate is this?

The infographic: http://i.imgur.com/bpnbqRI.jpg

I'm wondering how much truth there is to this and if it misrepresents anything. Is this comparison legitimate or is it missing important context or information?

Is the French- Indian War as a title as scoffed at by historians as much the internet would lead me to believe?

Fairly self explanatory, but I should preface in that I know what the Seven Years War was. When I use the name French-Indian War I specifically refer to the NAmerican campaign of that War. So in truth this isn't as much a history question in itself, but more about the historian community and I hope I'm not overstepping the rules of sub in doing so.

Cheers and thank you. -Dogpool

Does anyone know about the civil war that took place in the Byzantine Empire in the 11th century?

I am writing a paper in which I argue that one of the major turning points in the decline of the Byzantines and, consequently, the rise of the Ottomans, was the civil war that broke out in the Byzantine Empire. However, I can't find much information about it beyond Wikipedia. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks in advance for any help

Dumas' "Three Musketeers" seem - at least in most versions of the tale - to barely if ever touch a musket. Is this accurate?

Some units like Grenadiers kept their names long after they had stopped using the weapon for which they were named. Was this the case with the Musketeers, or was Dumas in fact just reasoning that protagonists banging away at each other at 50 paces to little effect wasn't as exciting as duels and swordplay?

Are there any documented instances of German writers/poets/playwrights citing American literature as an influence on them in the mid to late 20th Century?

I'm writing a research paper about American influence on German culture, specifically writing, in the aftermath of WWII. I'm trying to prove that American writing had a direct impact on German writing and how it evolved in the 20th century. It would be nice to reference a specific example to help make my point. Any ideas?
