I'm writing an essay on the Iran-Contra scandal, I've seen Kill The Messenger which deals with the CIA cocaine smuggling. But I've also been researching the Iranian weapons deals in exchange for hostages, which resulted income for the Contras as well. Was the U.S taking part in both? Can someone just lay it all out flat for me, how were the Contras funded during the 1980's?

I'm interested as to how the relations between Russia and France changed throughout the Napoleonic period. What happened between the Third Coalition (which had Russians fighting against the French), the Finnish War of 1808-09, and the Grand Armee's invasion of Russia?

Did they really wanted an exclave?

Where did this originate and when did the world collectively agree to adopt this numerical system but keep their equivalent word different in their languages?

Obviously the romans used their own thing of I, II, III, IV, V

but that seems like it could be ineffective to me as it requires too much brainpower (math) to read a number.

I don't really get Nazi philosophy at all. If they judged Aryan-ness by appearance, why did Jews who had blue eyes and blonde hair not count? Two of my friends are Jewish and look Scandi and I'm ethnically Jewish and have blue eyes. If it was all about the blood and the heritage, why couldn't a Jewish person also be Aryan?

We see, in Syria, recently, Chechnya, a little ways back, and Afghanistan decades ago, fighters flock to the cause. Why, when Muslims were under direct threat, in Bosnia, did they not assist? Especially, since the Serbs were Christian?

I am a part of a protestant vs Catholic debate group. I have been told outright that it was the secular powers that be that were the ones actually implementing death and torture to "heretics" during the Inquisition. My question is are there any historians here that can show me evidence of the Catholic Church's involvement from Catholic historians or any other source to disprove their conspiracy theory. I've been reading lately about the Lancastrians and the Wars of the Roses, and everything I've read agrees that Margaret of Anjou was a disastrous choice of wife for Henry VI. Furthermore, it seems to have been obvious at the time that it was a bad idea, to the point that the terms of the marriage (where Henry gave away two French provinces instead of getting some as a dowry) were kept secret because they would be so unpopular.

Nobody I've read has explained what the upside was. If the marriage was such a terrible idea for the English, why did it happen? Who benefited?

Was it a bid for permanent peace with France that failed?

Was it a power grab on the part of some English nobles, hoping to rule Henry through a queen that owed them her position?

Was it an attempt to give the monarchy some backbone by giving the inert Henry a strong-willed queen?

Was Henry just in love?

After perusing my local grocery store and finding a brand of root beer flavored beer, I am now genuinely curious. Was there ever a time in its history, pre-Prohibition or after, where root beer, as we know it today, was a fermented alcoholic beverage?
