Did bocage farms enclosed in hedgerows provide protection as field fortifications fro mounted raiders? Did it reduce soil losses or enhance soil fertility? Reduce run-off and provide better water conservation?

I was just watching The Pacific and one Marine said he got drafted, and everyone seemed like this is something that didn't happen.

Genealogy happens to be an interest of mine. In my research, I found online an alleged family tree for one of my (sourced) ancestors. Following up the tree, I got several noteworthy people, including Charlemagne. I know to take it with a grain of salt without documentation (I found a tree which has someone I'm sure is a complete fabrication), but it at least seems possible since he had 18 known kids. That reminded me of the Genghis Khan fact, and I began wondering if it had been done for other people.

I'm not necessarily interested in Charlemagne in particular or even Europe, so I welcome input from all specialties. It's okay if it wasn't a noble but just a very fertile person.

Searched and saw only one thread with not much of an answer. Would love to know more.

I've heard from various people who wear the three percenter things on their hats and cars that only three percent of the colonists actually took up weapons to fight the British during the American Revolution. Though they had plenty of supporters, only a very small number of the total population actually fought. Is this true?

I am reading a book called the celts by Frank Delaney and he opens the first chapter talking about a burial site that was found. On the body dated to 550bc was silk robes from China. This seems very earlier for silk in Europe if not at least early enough that it was more information is it not?

I'm researching the relationship between the major political parties in this country's history. I wanted to know if the parties in this country have always been at odds with one another with extreme gridlock or were there periods where they compromised with one another and weren't so polarized with eachother. If you have any books you know of that touch on this subject, that'd be great as well. Thanks!

Or did the government make these decisions for everybody?

Alternatively, this question could be phrased "What items within the Vatican archives are restricted to the public that we know about? Are there any items that the Vatican is rumored to have which would carry great significance?"

It seems like a poor choice due to it's closeness to the border. Why didn't they choose somewhere like Charleston, New Orleans, or Montgomery?

It seems that reparations are a fairly modern concept, particularly in instances such as indigenous populations or nations invaded during WW1. Did the Irish get reparations for their persecution? Did the Romans ever repay nations they invaded?

I can only find battle after battle of the opposite happening, but I figure there must be at least one in which Russia was the one beating the odds. They have fought so many battles that it would take me hours to go through them all. Air, land, or sea doesn't matter.
