When Spain expelled the Moriscos, they only numbered a couple hundred thousand. Was that indicative of the total number of Muslims to ever live in the peninsula? Or were many people who had converted to Islam and then converted back to Christianity not counted among the Moriscos?

I've been reading lately about the Pacific Theater during the Second World War, and I found it striking that after a series of four major carrier actions and multiple surface engagements--especially around the Solomon Islands--in 1942, it appears that the naval war between Japan and the United States dropped off considerably in 1943. There doesn't appear to be another major confrontation until the Battle of the Philippine Sea in 1944. Is this the case? Why? What were the two navies doing through 1943 if they weren't actively attempting to engage one another?

This is a long shot but here goes. My great grandfather fought in Burma during WW2 . He served in the West Yorkshire regiment and at one point I believe was cut off for a period of time before being rescued and airlifted out. Here comes the tricky part. I once had a book which contained a picture of him aboard the aircraft with several others all looking very gaunt and Ill with large beards. This book has been lost over time and I cannot remember the title. Can anyone help? If there is any more information you may need let me know. I have bought lots of books looking but cannot find it. It seems to me that the allies had put all their eggs in one beach and a small bombing raid would have crippled the entire campaign. Did this not happen because the axis powers couldn't scramble in time? Or did we preemptively disable their ability to counter strike?

Why were helmets seemingly phased out during this period of time in favor of wearing tricornes, shakos, kepis, and forage caps in battle? Prior to this, during the 1500's and 1600's, they still had morion and lobster-tailed pot helmets but then these were gradually phased out by hats like those mentioned above. Why though? Why didn't they keep on wearing helmets as they seem much more practical for headgear and protection than a hat

How did the German Wermarcht employ Forward Artillery Observers during the Blitzkrieg? (Notably during the Invasion of France) What level were they attached out at, Company, Brigade, Higher? Additionally, would these men be members of the Infantry or Artillery arm? What color waffenfarbe would they be wearing if they were attached out to the infantry. Finally, would they be responsible for their own communications with their battery or would a Signaller be attached with them as well.

I'm specifically asking what day-to-day life was like, rather than social or political aspects.

I'm guessing a lot of this depends on the geographical location of a particular village, and the exact time period it existed in.

What were farms like? What farming techniques were there? What about hunting? How did they build houses? And for that matter, what were the houses like? Did windows have glass or were there just shutters over a square hole in the wall? How did peasants make clothes? Did dyes exist? etc.

What I'm really after is a book detailing the lives of peasants, but I'm not sure if anything like that exists, or where to start looking.
