Edit 2: That is really interesting: I googled the name "Otto Teichmann" together with the name "Rampitz", the former German name of the town where the grave is located (now "Rąpice") and found this issue of Hamburger Anzeiger from 6th July 1936. In a small article with the headline "Beisetzung der verunglückten SS-Männer" ("Funeral of the SS-men killed in an accident") there is a paragraph in which the fate of Otto Teichmann is explained. Look here, it says:
"Rampitz (bei Fürstenberg), 5. Juli. Der bei dem Kraftwagenunglück des Musikzuges der Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler verunglückte Otto Teichmann wurde am Sonnabend hier beigesetzt. Fast die ganze Gemeinde hatte sich zu der Trauerfeier eingefunden. Pfarrer Terno(?) hielt die Trauerrede. Nach der Einsegnung der Leiche formierte sich ein langer Trauerzug zum Friedhof, wo SS-Kameraden der Leibstandarte eine Ehrenwache gestellt hatten. Nach dem Gebet des Geistlichen und dem Abschiednehmen der Angehören grüßten SS-Sturmhauptführer Garthe(?) und SS-Sturmbannführer Paulisch(?) ihren toten Kameraden und legten Kränze nieder"
My translation: "Rampitz (at Fürstenberg), 5th July. Otto Teichmann, who was killed in an automobile accident of the marching band of the Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler was buried here on saturday. Almost the whole community has joined the funeral service. Pastor Terno(?) gave the eulogy. After blessing the corpse a long funeral procession headed for the cemetery where SS-comrades of the Leibstandarte kept an honor guard. After the prayer of the cleric and the leave-taking of the relatives SS-Sturmhauptführer Garthe(?) and SS-Sturmbannführer Paulisch(?) greeted their dead comrade and laid down a wreath."

The monogram consists of the letters LAH for Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler. The inscription says:
Otto Teichmann
Unterscharführer
Leibstandarte
SS Adolf Hitler
Februar 1916
1936 (or maybe 1934?)
So it appears this Otto Teichmann was a member of the Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler: "The 1st SS-Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler (abbreviated as 1st SS-Pz.Div. LSSAH) was Adolf Hitler's personal bodyguard. Initially the size of a regiment (brigade), the LSSAH eventually grew into an elite division-sized unit." (from the Wiki linked above).
I'd guess he died in 1934 and not 1936 considering this information: "On 13 April 1934, Heinrich Himmler, the Reichsführer-SS, ordered the Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler (LAH) to be renamed "Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler" (LSSAH). Himmler inserted the SS initials into the name to make it clear that the unit was independent from the SA or army." (also from the Wiki).
So we have an 18/20 year old member of the LAH dying before any of the events of WWII took place. What happend? Illness? Accident? Murder? How could I find out more about him?

I found it laying on the ground of a cemetery in a small Polish village close to the German border. After the war the communist leadership of this town decided to bulldoze the former German graves to make space for new ones.
My questions: Can anyone identify the the symbol at the top of the gravestone? There definitely is a helmet recognisable. Did the grave belong to a German soldier?
Is anyone able to read the inscription? I think I can read a "1914" and a "193?" at the bottom, but I can't decipher the letters. Maybe someone has experience in editing photos in a way that makes these letters readable?
"Fun" fact: These two photos were the last ones I took with my old digital camera. Right after I took the last one the screen turned black... never to show anything at all again. This grave destroyed my camera and I want to know who is responsible! ;)

It is known that the Islamic civilization was a frontier for scientific education back then. How did it decline? Did Al ghazali had anything to do with it? How about today's contribution of muslims to the science? Is is that bad, or have they recovered?

Specifically I am interested in looking at the regional populations of Iceland from before and after the industrial revolution, how people migrated from the countryside to living in cities (~1600s-1900s). This would be used to look at how this affected people's health as a result of their change in environment clashing with genomes adapted to life in less dense populations. So I would want to hear about population size, density, health, and ages of marriage/parenthood. I'm guessing there is a database for this sort of thing but I don't know where to look. Cheers!

First, I know knights were not the only people to wear armour, but how clean was armour kept when on campaign? Did soldiers try to keep it shiny? Could you see your face in it or have the sun reflect off it to blind opponents? I recall reading of a charge of knights blinding foes with the sun glinting on visors, but I have no idea how literal that was, or simply was emphasising the perceived splendour of them charging the enemy.

Has there ever been an administration in the USA who seriously tried to change the way elections are handled in the USA? Especially the fact that more populous states are underrepresented in Congress? It would seem like an smart move, especially as the Democrats have a very hard time winning elections because of that.

Does anyone have any insight on the path that a religion takes to become an accepted religion? I think it's very interesting that Scientology and Mormonism are considered acceptable, even though they were considered cults a few decades ago. Throughout my readings (writing my dissertation), I keep finding mention of Boston, Albany, Philadelphia, etc. I don't find much mention of any souther colonies until at least the mid-to-late 1770's. Were the southern colonies participants of any rebellion before 1775? If so - could you direct me to some reading? Especially on southern colony crowd behaviour. I get that they're not mentioned much, but I'm really curious why. Was it the Puritan divide? The differences in economy and trans-Atlantic trade? Both?
