How would this affect morale, desertion, and reflect upon the absolute desperation of the situation?

I'm pretty sure I saw this in Enemy at the Gates, and I know I've seen it referenced elsewhere.

I'm thinking of movies like Kingdom of Heaven , or Arn: The Knight Templar where Guy de Lusignan is almost always the 'bad' guy on the 'good' side. From a small amount of looking into it, he just seemed to be politically savvy, which would entail being a dick at times, and he owed a bit of his later success to Sibylla. How accurate is this and his portrayals?

Ludovico Buonarrati, Michelangelo's father. He was a wealthy man. He had no understanding of the divinity in his son, so he beat him. No child of his was going to use his hands for a living. So, Michelangelo learned not to use his hands. Years later a visiting prince came into Michelangelo's studio and found the master staring at a single 18 foot block of marble. Then he knew that the rumors were true -- that Michelangelo had come in everyday for the last four months, stared at the marble, and gone home for his supper. So the prince asked the obvious -- what are you doing? And Michelangelo turned around and looked at him, and whispered, sto lavorando, I'm working. Three years later that block of marble was the statue of David.

I am curious about whether this was just completely made-up or if such an anecdote has any basis in history, or even if it is an anecdote that predates the TV show.

I'm assuming they were men. Gynecology deals with very personal parts of women. How did male doctors come to be responsible for women's health? Were there jokes about gynecologists being perverts in the early days or was it perceived as a serious attempt by doctors to improve the lives of women?

I've heard that camels were imported in large numbers to be used in similar way horses are, specifically in the deserts of the West where the climate is similar to that of the Middle East. Theres an urban legend that basically states there are herds of wild camels still roaming about near 29 Palms and other such places. As cool as that would be, I'm inclined to think its a crock, but is there any truth to the camel importing thing? Were a large number brought over or just a few (if any at all)? Would it have been common to see "cowboys on camels" in the Old West?

Hello all! I recently decided I want to study history, and I have some questions.

1. I'm mostly interested in ancient history, say from Greece's Geometrical era up to the fall of Rome. I already know Ancient Greek, what other languages should I learn?
2. I live in Greece, do you think I should study here or abroad?
