WW1 - Question about Welsh soldiers

After having tried to find some information about my great grandfather without luck I now turn to you, great historians of reddit, for some kind of general info. Here is what I know (except his name);

  1. coal miner (as if that would help)
  2. Lived close to Cardiff
  3. Died after the end of the war home in Wales out of complications from mustard gas exposure
  4. Apparently had a few medals that are now lost

If anyone could help me narrow down probable theatre of operation, time of service or anything like that I would be very greatful.. I know that it will only be educated guessing but right now I have nothing at all.

Thank you!

Iberian Conquest of America Records

Did the Spanish and Portuguese keep any records on the various native groups that they subjugated? Specifically, did the Spanish/Portuguese governments in Europe know which native cultures (or states, where applicable, ie the Mayan Kuchkabals ) were present in the new world and how they came under Spanish/Portuguese rule, as well as what their society and governance was like before their conquest? If so, how did they get this information, of what quality was it, and to what extent was that information used in setting up the administration of the Viceroyalities and colonies?

When did Images of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and its effects first come under public scrutiny?

Firstly I know this is quite a broad question, but I want to know when images of Hiroshima entered public view, aiding in helping form public opposition to nuclear technologies and weapons. The answer doesn't have to be localized to a particular region and can focus on a larger global perspective. (*though Oceania is the region I want to focus on) Any response is greatly appreciated, Thanks, Jack

What is the consensus on Real Crusades History?

I've been watching a lot of videos from a YouTube channel called Real Crusades History. I just want to know if it is of any learning value I should take into account. I just seem suspicious of the presentation as it is swarmed from conservatives blasting the comment section proclaiming hatred for Islam. Also the presenter seems to align and justify the crusaders actions. So please let me know soon if this is an appropriate source of information. https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCpiumHmUE5EZeLTftxv9qGw

What was the transition to Christianity like in Britain? How long did paganism persist, and what was the nature of the early missionaries?

I was thinking about it and realized that monks and friars and such probably came later, so what were the people like who brought Christianity to Britain? Was there a later shift in the nature of the church when Roman Catholicism was established?

During the height of Nazi Germany how well known was the Holocaust?

Was the German attitude toward Jewish people well known? I ask because one of my history teachers told me the rest of the world (America) had no idea. I'm 85% sure she's full of shit but I'd like to be sure.

Where did the "don't eat pork" start?

I know it's in a lot of religious texts but I was wondering where and how this came about as a thing. Is there something about the meat? Nowadays I think people do it because it's in their religion or they are vegetarians. But I was wondering why did they even establish that as a thing to do, why did the earlier humans all believe that they shouldn't eat pork.

I believe I remember reading a while back that pigs have organs similar to humans so that got me thinking maybe there is something behind the whole don't eat pork belief.

Why is the Soviet Union more accepted in society than Nazi Germany?

Why are Soviet fanboys more accepted in society than Nazi German Fanboys? The Soviet union carried out many atrocities too, and killed many MANY more than Nazi Germany did, but you can still see people with clearly pro-soviet material being accepted into society, but if anyone were to do the same related to Nazi Germany they are shunned?

How accurate is Ari Shavit's "My Promised Land?"

Has anyone read the book?

I've been reading a lot of articles that he leaves out the context of the Israeli takeover of Lydda in 1948, which leads the reader to make different conclusions.

Are there any other chapters in which information is left out?

The book is told through anecdotes, taken from interviews the author has made, and personal stories, and some is unsourced explanations so it's difficult to fact check.

That being said, I'm really enjoying the book.
