In Timothy Leary's autobiography he makes the claim that JFK was receiving LSD indirectly from him and that this in turn lead to JFK's assassination. I've always thought it was far fetched, but is there any evidence to support this claim?

In the 1974 referendum, the vote was overwhelmingly in favour of independence (99+%) everywhere except for in Mayotte, which was majority against it. What were the factors that led to this difference in voting?

Every depiction of the Vietcong I've seen have them wearing black sandals. Why would they wear sandals and not something more protective like boots?

My grandfather has had these doors hanging in his house for as long as I have been around. He asked me if there was anyway to use the internet to figure out where/when they were from and I immediately thought of this subreddit. I'm not sure if this is the best place to post them, but hope you can help.
He got the doors from an old neighbor of his mothers. She was a collector and went to Europe and returned with several old pieces to decorate her home with. When she died, her house went up for sale. My grandfather, then a young man, procured the doors from the new owners.
From looking at the doors, it appears evident that the handles and locking mechanisms were added/repaired more recently than the doors were created.
The doors themselves have 8 pictures. They are divided into 4 pairs of a male and female facing each other. We assume they were nobles or lords of a family.
The pictures are here: http://imgur.com/a/fLGqA
Thank you in advance!

I'm watching Saving Private Ryan right now and, in the film they feature little resistance once they get behind the bunker. There's were few soldiers and they easily get to the rear entrance and used a flamethrower to clear the people inside.
How is this depiction compared to the reality of D-Day. Note the movies depicts the Omaha beach landings.

I just randomly thought of this question. I'm curious if this is a recent "phenomenon" or if this kind of thing actually happened.

NATO encompassed most of North America, Western and Southern Europe and Asia minor (3 continents). So why didn't the Warsaw Pact do the same?

Nye's Encyclopedia of Secrets makes a reference to Joseph Smith considering Masonry while he was a young man in Manchester NY. Before starting the Church of Latter Day Saints, what connections did Joseph Smith have to esoteric groups such as Masonry? What influences did these have upon the development and doctrines of the LDS?

Bevore anyone says something, a disclaimer: yes, I know the medieval period was immensely long and that what was true for the 1300s was not necessarily true for the 800s.
Now my question is this: did the news about the biggest and most important battles fought in Europe make its way around the entire continent? Would Władysław Jagiełło have heard about the battle of Agincourt? And vice versa, would Henry IV have heard about the battle of Grunwald*? Would the news of the Siege of Baghdad in 1258 (not really Europe, I know) have reached Castile and Italy?

Besides the British, Canadians, Indians, Free French, etc., who fought in Italy, Africa, the Pacific, and on the Western Front with the US, there were other, smaller, contingents from countries such as Brazil and Mexico. How can I find out about their experiences? Any books out there anyone can recommend?
