I watched a documentary of the plaque going through London in 1325 or so. Death rate estimated as high as 60% in places. What was the effect of the plaque in Africa and Asia? Hard to believe it didn't go to those places. I can see maybe it stopping at the Sahara desert with few people traveling through it and most likely dyeing in route. Did North Africa also get ravaged?

Living in Japan I have come to love the metric system. When I read books from the U.S. to my kids, I always have to explain the system there and it becomes very confusing. How did other countries migrate to the metric system? What kept the U.S. from successfully implementing it?

I'm reading on King Faisal I and Sati Al-Husri and his Arab Nationalism Ideology. He pretty much copies Johann Gottlieb Fichte and Johann Gottfried Herder's ideas. By using this ideology, why was Iraq unsuccessful in uniting, while Germany succeeded.

Does it have to do with Arabs being a minority? I believe close to 90% were non-Arab (Iranian, Shi'a, Kurd, Jew) when Iraq was artificially created.

Common sense makes it easy to think that; as it seems easier to learn a few dozen letters as opposes to thousands of logographs. Also the fact that some societies such as Vietnam and Korea switched seems to indicate some advantages. But this is just a conjecture based on no evidence so I'd love to hear more.

I've learned that only West Coast and Hawaiian Japanese and Japanese Americans were forcibly detained in the Internment Camps under Executive Order 9066. Is there a reason more didn't relocate themselves to the East? I assume moving/relocation costs would be a barrier for some, but wouldn't that cost be seen as worth it by many to maintain their freedom?
