I've heard that when Columbus came to North America diseases like smallpox killed the majority of the North Americans that were already there. Why didn't it work the other way as well?

For example, I'm looking at finding a specific collection dedicated to James Hutton, the founder of modern geology. He was Scottish and as such I would assume there must be a small collection or exhibit on his history and works at the National Museum of Scotland located in Edinburgh as there is for such things as the 'Heddle Collection.'
There must be something, some collection dedicated to J. Hutton... yet I can't find one anywhere. How do you go about finding a collection dedicated to a specific individuals works?
All I have found is this.
Thanks in advance

This is one of my favourite texts written by Hunter S. Thompson. What is your take on this eulogy as a historian?

Was it not feasible economically or militarily to invade the island? I don't understand why he didn't pursue the Kuomintang when they evacuated the government to Taipei.

Why were the Finnish so much better at skiing, outdoor survival, and winter combat in general? Many of the Soviets also came from snowy places, did they not? I've even heard Finns would find How to Ski Booklets on Soviet bodies. Why is this? I recognize the USSR was a large place so some may never have even seen snow, but I'd figure the majority had grown up with it.

Can anyone provide an accurate source in learning the Mayan Calendar? specifically the Tzolk'in Calendar? Thank you.

I know that the Mayans used a shell-like glyph as a placeholder, something we translate to be zero, but did they consider it a true number, as we do today?

Especially the ones with Wolfe Tone and David O'Connell. Wouldn't the new US government, especially with Adams at the helm, want to spite the British in any way possible?
It probably goes deeper than that, I know, but what happened?
