Have been re-watching The Tudors lately and I know some facts are glazed over, or omitted entirely, made up for show dramatic effect and all regarding the reign of Henry VIII. Just curious if any one knows off hand of any differences in the show and what is fact....

Why did societies move away from cremation and towards burials of their dead? Were there significant historical factors or was it just fashion?

All I hear is about is Rome but never about who led them to their fall. Aren't they a lot smarter than how they are often portrayed in popular Media (half-naked axe-wielding beserkers)? What have the Barbarians in that time become? Germanic tribes became Germans I guess? Also, I just know that Rome Fell and then there were the Medieval times, but what led to this change? How and why did they decide to become civilized? Were they influenced by some of the Romans they let live?

I understand that they were unhappy with the democratic system at the time, but why did they favour a dictatorship over reform to the democracy?

I was thinking about this in geography class in which we talked about how languages split off through isolation and how they combine with interaction. and I wondered ¨At what point could a Prussian be able to understand a Bavarian, or at least see that they were speaking the same language¨

Recently I got into a discussion with my Longsword Fencing instructor about arms and armor around the Agincourt period, 1415.

The discussion went from the construction of bascinets to the use of Klappvisors by the "German" areas. But when I asked "What were they using in Hungary and the rest of the Balkans at this time?" We had a really hard time finding archeological or contemporary representation of these items.

Hey guys. My brother and I want to take our dad to Germany (maybe elsewhere), and do a tour of the areas where my grandfather spent time during the war. We think this is a great idea, but we don't know where to start. All of the information I have to start with is that I know his name. Is this going to be relatively easy, perhaps with the use of some tools I don't know about, or is this going to be a really difficult search?

In the recent drama "Secret Door" (taking place during the reign of King Yeongjo) there is a subplot about government crackdowns on illegal book lenders. Did such "secret" book lenders actually exist in Joseon and did the government really go after them? Or was this something made up just for the drama?

Back in the roman times gladiators used to always get prostitutes after battle but they didnt have any contraception, so when they finished in them how come the didnt get pregnant all the time? Did they have abortions or pull out? Thanks in advance

They were historic enemies, then all the sudden they are fighting on the same sides. Was it more of an "enemy of my enemy is my friend" deal or did they just finally have nothing to fight about and made peace?
