So I saw this post on the front page: http://www.reddit.com/r/OldSchoolCool/comments/2sxruu/1984_hair/
And was wondering: Are there accounts of similar "fads" or pop culture trends in Pre-Renaissance Europe? Hairstyles or music or types of literature? I know certain religious sects existed and grew more/less popular over time, I'm more interested in the quotidian culture. I've kept the timeframe and geography wide so anyone who has an example can chime in.

Going through my late Dad's belongings, we found an interesting old 8-page newspaper: The Call, Nov 2, 1940, a Socialist Party weekly.
All I can find out so far says is that The Call ceased publication in the 1920s, so this 1940 edition is peculiar. It calls itself Volume VI, issue 43, total no. 266 so it sounds like it had been running for a few years at that time, and not just for the 1940 election campaign.
Here's a scan of the first page (2 images)
The political ranting is pretty interesting.

People always talk of Joseph Stalin as the leader of the USSR when he was the Head of Party. People also compare his position to that of Vladimir Lenin, who was one of the first heads of states...
Did the positions/powers change over time as it transitions from a republic to a dictatorship? When did the Head of Party become more powerful than the Head of State ... or was the Head of Party ever more powerful?
Thanks!

So, I am an individual who benefits from being part of Alcoholics Anonymous and was wondering how those of the same maladie were treated by those in their community, as well as, by physicians of their time. For instance did they have such a thing as rehabilitation as it pertains to mind/mood altering substances? Were these people looked down upon and scorned? Were they homeless and unemployed? Was the thought of being an alcoholic even around? In AA we consider ourselves to have an allergy to alcohol. Any thoughts or information would be very much appreciated.

I'm making a casual research here and was wondering who got to make the clothes for the medieval japanese. From a quick search in the internet I got some kinds of clothing and materials (such as linen that is made of flax, or hemp clothes, aswell as cotton and silk.). I understand that attire has great social importance in many historical societies but we frequently forget to ask the economics behind it. So, my questions are:
The same question stands for clothes for the higher strata, but I understand there is a greater separation of material and process because the consumer of the end product could afford it. I also would like to know more about the professionals behind it.

I keep thinking back to a documentary on WW1 I'd watched that described how by 1919, King George V became the first British Monarch to become more of a symbol of the British nation as opposed to having any real power. Can anyone give me a timeline as to the declination of Monarchial power?
Note: I understand it begins with the Magna carta, perhaps it might be easier if I set the timeline to begin around 1700 (the beginning of Great Britain as opposed to just England)

I'm looking for a good history of Hawaii (specifically the era just leading up to and just following statehood). Are there any resources that you would recommend for this?

Latin, according to my high school education on it, was written and spoken with word order being fairly unimportant. The general practice however, was to place the main verb at the end of the sentence and to identify the subject, direct object, et cetera with their endings. Why and when did the shift occur to the meaning of the sentence being decided by word order?
