I know that there are certain limitations this prospected assimilation of the classes faced, im just wondering if there are any sources out there that point to it being a success in any measure? im trying to create a balanced argument in order to illicit discussion with my seminar group. I seem to have plenty of reasons why it wouldnt work, but not many for why it would, or did.

Outside of Germany, of course, was the idea that Germans were great engineers and their products were of the highest quality actually a thing before WW2? Would people pay more for German goods?

I'm asking because the idea seems these days to reek of the embers of the whole Aryan master race thing.

I have heard it goes back to the war between the French and British when British archers bragged of their middle finger not being cut off. but I have also heard this is NOT true. Also I understand that the current Brit version is the pointer and middle finger palm facing toward yourself. any clues what that is about? (maybe something with the "V" for victory simple being similar?) Thanks

Any major contributions from Islamic philosophers during and after the crusades?

I was watching an old Twilight Zone episode yesterday, which starred a very young Dennis Hopper as a neo-Nazi who meets up with a shadowy benefactor who turns out to be ... (three guesses, eh?) Hitler, of course. And, of course, this Hitler character was speaking English with some sort of not-that-great German accent.

It made me wonder ... I've seen film with audio of Hitler's speeches, and he was certainly an amazing orator. I wonder what the real Hitler would have sounded like if he were speaking English, or some other language. So, tl;dr, did Hitler speak any other languages? If so, is there any surviving audio/video of him doing so?

And perhaps this could explain why its much easier to understand older texts(19th century and earlier, when a single sentence could take up half a page) when they are read out loud? In other words, maybe they were designed to be read out loud?

If they were lost and rediscovered, when where they rediscovered, and what was the reaction? When did Shakespeare gain the status he has today?

I think I read once that Bach was rediscovered at some point in the last 200 years. I wondered if he same thing occurred with Shakespeare.

I am supposed to graduate in March of 2015, and in order to do that, I'm having to take all self-directed research classes. This means I won't be really attending class, and it will probably be more like "light" versions of what PhD and Masters students do for their research careers. What would be the best way to schedule my days so that I dont get overwhelmed or lost along the way? I do have a job, but it is so flexible that it is the last thing I consider when figuring out my schedules.

I've read a bunch of stories about the loyalty of some Roman slaves. Some will take up arms and fight with their master. Some will continue to carry out duties after their master dies. Some will commit suicide after their master dies, or commit suicide at the same time!
