I recently came accross blog post that claims that Mongol Empire never existed, since I am not historian it sounded very convincing and logical. Unfortunately original post is in Russian, but I will translate it's main points. Actually google translate produces readable translation. Here is the post: http://kungurov.livejournal.com/69966.html
Points:
Basically he claims that all current evidences are circumstantial or based on well known faked materials. I tried to read the comments, but the other problem is that guy is very rude so most of discussions in the comments ended up with name calling and no meaningful discussions are there. But he sounds very convincing to non specialist.

“One day the great European War [will] come out of some damned foolish thing in the Balkans.”

The only source I've found says it was attributed BY Churchill in 1923.
How likely is the quote to be authentic?

I'm not trying to put on a fedora about this issue, I have my own philosophies that aren't atheistic nor do they belong in this thread. What I'm asking about is why do we write off Sumerian or Babylonian history off as of as simply "evil ones"? These people clearly had civilization before the 5000 years ago that fundamentalists claim the world existed, and from what I can tell had many technologies lost due to them just being regarded as footnotes in biblical history. (Note: My high school education was from a Catholic school, however it doesn't seem like public schools don't bother with it either)

Since I've never really looked into it I sort of just assumed that Churchill's "Iron Curtain" was this impenetrable wall that strictly kept the West out of the East. But a recent article on Reddit about an Italian porn actress who was born and raised in Hungary who worked in a hotel frequented by Americans has made me question that idea.
Was there a large degree of travel between the east and west? Was there still a sense of the "commonality of Europe," despite the political divides? Would it be normal to have, say, a Polish family move to Germany?

I frequent /r/badhistory and have often heard that the Dark ages title is a misnomer, but I'm not entirely sure why that is, and remember arguing with a friend about it and not having a solid argument except that smart people say it isn't a good name. Thank you so much for your help!

As a born and raised Catholic, this one always confused me. I remember learning about the origins of Santa Claus and the Christmas Tree. But the only thing I remotely remember about Easter is that egg is supposed to signify Jesus's rebirth. But why is a bunny leaving eggs to children with candy?

Forgive me, I am completely ignorant in this subject. From what I understand, as soon as the war started, the Germans barely put up any fight in holding their new colonies in Asia. Wasn't one of Germany's biggest desires, around this time in history, to start being a world power like Britain? Why, then, would they not put more effort into defending them?

Was Jesus the historical figure likely a supporter of what he is now almost inseparably associated with, his own divinity (and equal divinity to the Father as one of 3 divine persons) and the trinity? What other points of common doctrine may be of dubious relation to the founder of Christianity himself?

Here I am, an academic in the 21st century who loves the pursuit of knowledge. But put that aside, and my motivations for being an academic could be said to be economic. What kind of motivation was there to be an academic in ancient times? What was the payout? How did they survive?

I just realized I never hear works set in medieval times use "Mrs.", it's always Lady So-and-So or some nameless peasant.

I feel like I've heard this a lot, but it seems an exceptionally frivolous reason for such a monumental schism. Is it true, or were other factors involved?
