Pretty self explanatory question. I guess.

Wondering how much the empire was necessary in the grand scheme of things. Were other factors more important?

So I recently have been obsessed with Pearl Jam's Do the Evolution. One of the lines is "Buying stocks on the day of the crash ". That got me thinking, did anyone profit from the financial crash that occurred on Black Tuesday or the rest of the depression? Who were they? Was there any prosecution of them as many wanted for those that profited from the last "Great Recession"?

I know this one's pretty niche, but I've been researching the Eight Banners and virtually every illustration I've come across of their archers depicts them like so. It's the quiver I'm particularly interested in - they almost always have a full quiver with dark fletchings and then three (or sometimes two) arrows set aside with light fletchings, or sometimes vice versa. Is there a reason for this?

We are learning about this in history, and I asked my teacher this question, but she couldn't answer. How can a trench be dug during war? Surely your body would be sticking out while you dig, making you a target. And also, it would take a while to dig enough for all the soldiers to fit.

America, Canada, Argentina, and Brazil are almost completely dominated by the colonizing populations. (Here I'm counting slaves as one of the 'colonizers' since they are not native) However we do not see permanent British, to just take one, populations stay around to modern times in India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, etc.
Why wasn't this the case? Am I wrong in grouping Australia and N.Z. in with western hemisphere colonization? Were countries like South Africa the rule instead of the exception? Did the goals of colonization change? If so how?

What foreign nations played a role in the civil war?
Were they involved directly indirectly?
I'm curious because I never hear of foreign involvement in the civil war, just major battles.

I have a paper due in 10 days, on the effects of Commodore Perry's arrival in Japan. Unfortunately, one of my primary sources turned out to not be quite primary. Would anyone be able to suggest a primary source to replace it? I am preferably looking for something from during the Boshin War.

Wouldn't the rockets have a white trail and explosion with black powder? Were the bombs launched with timed fuses to explode in the air (that doesn't seem very effective) ?

I don't understand why the UVF and UDA in particular were separate organisations. I understand there was a lot of infighting later on (especially in the 2000’s), but why did the organisations form separately in the 60s/70s?

The other day I was bored and began reading about Iceland on Wikipedia. Apparently it wasn't always a highly developed country; according to the article, the country was pretty much a farming backwater until the middle of the 20th century. However, the article and some other articles (such as this one) don't really delve into the details of how it turned around.
What happened from the mid-20th century to today? What was done by the government? How much influence did things like the Marshall Plan help?

Qanats seem pretty important to Iran and some other areas. They also seem rather expensive to build. Who funded them throughout history. Were they for private benefit (like large landowners?) or public benefit?
