When did the modern idea of legal and illegal immigration come into being. Because many of my teachers describe early immigrants as just getting off a boat with little interference.

How did large forces of mercenaries, such as those of the Condottieri, move around throughout Europe in the Renaissance to the early modern period?

Or more directly, how was supply dealt with if a force in Milan wanted to wage war on the Papal States, thus having to pass through other republics or duchies? Was sea travel common? Or did the forces just coalesce near a battlefield?

E: I am essentially asking about the logistics involved in warring with a state or entity not directly bordered with your own.

Women roles in Nazi Germany

I am doing a dissertation on women's roles in Nazi Germany, specifically how the role of women changed in Germany and also concentrating on certain women within the Nazi government. I was wandering if anyone knew of any books that may help me?

In the Middle Ages, where there any roguish adventurer-types like movies and games?

You all know the type. The hardy traveler with nothing but a sword at his side and the clothes on his back, wandering the world in search of adventure, battling evil-doers with his trusty steed. Now while I assume it's safe to say that there weren't many fair maidens being rescued from tall towers or dragons being slain, were there fellows like the commonly portrayed adventurer/ranger type of hero often seen in games and movies?

What role did African leaders play in the slave trading of 1500s - 1700s?

I'm curious how the cultures in Africa were effected by the slave trade of this era. Ive learned a lot about The slave trade in American history classes but I never learned about it from the point of view of Africa. Other questions that come up for me are:

How were tribal relations in Africa during this time period? Were there any big conflicts between tribes?

How did they manage to gather up so many people in Africa, what was the process behind getting all those slaves onto the ships?

Were Africans aware of the establishment of slavery in the rest of the world? Did they know what was happening?

Any information relating to these questions would be awesome!

How were Eunuchs castrated?

This is a very broad question since the prevalence of Eunuchs ranged from the Romans, Greeks, Persians, Chinese, etc. so any information on anyone's practices would be great.

That said, how was the castration performed? How did they prevent infection? What parts of the anatomy were removed (i.e. just some portion of the testicles, the entirety of the testicles or even more?).

Why did the Reichstag pass the enabling act?

I studied Nazi Germany pretty extensively in school but one thing I could never understand was exactly why the enabling act was passed. I understand the fear of communism at the time but what led to a large amount of the Reichstag, who were not Nazis, voting in favour of the enabling act? The act effectively signalled the end of democracy so I've never understand the reasons behind voting it in and I haven't been able to find much information online. Thank you in advance!

When reading about WWII you often hear that the Germans during WWII focused on quality over quantity and that this hurt their war effort. How true was this, and what did it entail specifically?

For example, did it mean that they had overly complicated designs or electronics that were hard to fix or replace? Were there handmade parts that weren't standardized? I've heard that claim many times and just wanted to get a better idea of what it meant on a case by case basis.

I apologize if this has been asked before but a quick search didn't turn anything up.

Maybe not right away, but after a while, say an hour, would we be able to establish some common ground in our languages so we would be able to understand eachother?

How was the identity of a telegram's sender proved? Did cases of 'identity theft' using the telegraph occur?

How did one know that a telegram came from the person it said on the note? I'm especially interested in how (important) politicians dealt with that problem, if it ever was one.

Also, could fake telegrams be feeded into telegraph lines?

Why does the american sports teams always have a nickname in ther official names, while the european ones almost never?

Some of the famous sports clubs currently are 100+ years old, so i think the question is history related.

Is there some reason behind the fact that most of the american sports clubs have nickname in their official names? Even in the MLS, which is the newest major league most of the teams have nicknames.

In the rest of the world the teams have nicknames too, but never use them as official name.
