As we all know, as one ages, they become less independent, and often become senile and weak. This necessitates some kind of care. However, the advent of the modern nursing home is fairly recent, historically speaking.
So what did people do with these elderly people that had become infirm due to their age? Did they have something similar to a nursing home? Did children live with their parents for generations, as they still do in certain parts of the East? Did society simply let these people die?
What happened, did it vary based on region and timeframe, and if so, how? I'm really only concerned with the West, which would be European peoples and their numerous colonies.

Did any countries advocate for its independence? Or was it largely forgotten until the end of WWI?

I just started re-reading the Epic of Gilgamesh (Penguin Classics edition, translated by Andrew George). In the prologue, the poet says "...pick up the tablets of lapis lazuli and read out the travails of Gilgamesh..." I know that the actual cunieform-inscribed tablets that we have today are made of clay, but I was wondering if there actually were inscribed lapis lazuli tablets. I did some googling and saw that the Ten Commandments are also thought to have been written on lapis. Was this just poetic embellishment? Do any surviving examples of inscribed lapis from the ancient world remain today?

Were minors even allowed into the Nazi army? I'm not asking about the children of Nazi officials. But actual young Nazis.

Just curious as to whether there was an interesting reason.
For example, MLB's (US Professional Baseball) looks like this, NBA's looks like this.
Meanwhile, the rest look very different: NFL, MLS, NHL.
While I know some context exists, as the NHL for example is two countries and the MLS is very new, I guess I'm very curious as to why the NFL didn't adapt the same style as MLB and the NBA.

I have absolutely no interest in civil war or WWII questions, but it seems like I have to wade through a bunch of them to find the questions about earlier history. Could we have a sort function by topic like AskScience does? I'm sure there are plenty of people that have no interests in my interests, as well, and would like to look questions pertaining to what they like.
Just an idea.

I've read that he had a deep-seated hatred for Lincoln and the Union that had been building up for some time, but I have never found anything that would suggest what the reasoning behind his position was.

Would you give it to Auchinlek for holding him at El Alamein? Allies cracking the Enigma? World War 2 history is my topic of choice. This has been a question i was never really too sure about.

If so, why didn't someone else just rise to power?

I've seen there are conspiracy theories around his death in 1978. Do historians view any of these as credible?

More specifically, what were Charles X and Louis Phillipe involvement in with the church? Also, for the sake of a shorter title, I used the July Days, but any information preceding it and after it are welcomed; answers don't have to deal exclusively with the July Revolution.
