How did people train in martial arts? Did members of the warrior-noble class have special weapons for themselves? What did their armor look like? What were their swords like?

I'm not really sure if this is a history question or a science question but I'd figured I'd post. I'm a mix of European descent and I have curly hair and was wondering about how I've got my hair.

I was recently informed that whole rice was essentially unprocessed white rice, which blew my mind. Yet, having spent time in poor areas of several rice-eating countries, the only option was consistently white rice. When and why did we decide to start adding another layer to the generation of these foodstuffs, especially in countries with lower production (not to mention, with lower nutritional value)

Was it necessary to preserve leftovers with ways like salting?
Were leftovers less common, because of a need to finish food before it spoils?

Most Medieval paintings I've seen are iconographical; do we have any examples that attempt to portray their subjects with realism? In the tradition of earlier Classical paintings and modern/contemporary art.

My Grandfather recently passed and we found this among his medals from his career in the army. He fought in WW2 in the Burma Campaign and was stationed in New Guinea. Can anyone tell me why he would have this? What it might say? Thank you!

I understand that the average soviet citizen was much less wealthy than the average American and thus having a large segment with the idle time to protest wars or the inclination to become "hippies" might be less viable. But surely there were those who protested the presence in Afghanistan, if at no other time, than when disillusioned occupying soldiers came home.

I was wondering how is it possible that we didn't see the most advanced civilizations appear on tropical regions, as they are most suited to agriculture than subtropical ones. Then I hypothetized that maybe it is the other way around: maybe the lack of resources was the driving force of technological advancement in earlier civilizations, in the sense that it forced people to be ingenious in order to cope with their harsh environments.
Am I on the right track? Is there historical evidence backing me up?

When Caesar was returning from his conquest of the 300 tribes of Gaul, he feared that he would be brought up on charges of misconduct and treason and possibly executed. This was because he essentially did what he pleased with his four legions and didn't get permission for anything from senate. Returning to Rome, he launched the civil war against Pompey.
The above, while brief and simply put, is correct, right?

As per title - I've been wondering for some time how expected the initial invasion was from the point of view of the Polish, especially those living in the areas that were occupied in the first few and days and nights.
Thanks!

Im working on a proposal paper on the origins of capitalism and while researching I have noticed that the average salary for a worker in one of Carnegie steel mills in the 1880s would be about 11 cents an hour. How would this wage compare to the workers that make Nike shoes or the workers at foxcomm?
