Throughout Japanese history, did any reigning Shogun attempt to declare himself Emperor? If not, why?

To elaborate on my question, what historically makes Pakistan different so that it was able to make atomic bombs where other major Islamic nations, that want to have this power, have failed to achieve in constructing atomic weapons (Iran, Arabian Peninsula's nations, all Islamic nations surrounding Israeli, and the few partly Islamic nations in central Asia) Whom most of which have publicly declared they are interested in pursuing the development of nuclear weapons.

Also, I've heard that one of the reasons that Charlemagne was crowned Roman Emperor was because the Papacy was theoretically/legally still a vassal to the Byzantines at that time, so naming Charlemagne Emperor was a way to free itself from Constantinople. If so, were Byzantine coins used in Rome during that period?

In the event that war broke out in Europe, and didn't immediately turn nuclear, what was the NATO plan to hold West Berlin? Were there any fortifications or supply depots constructed? And what was the composition of NATO forces in the city? Were there any plans to use tactical nuclear weapons in the city? I'm very interested in the Cold War era, but I haven't found much that address Berlin specifically.

Hello historians of reddit, I'd like to know everything about the Korean War regarding foreign influences, what impacts did foreign influences have on the Korean War? If sources were cited, that would be great too

By African countries I mean African countries with non-European governments who would have had majority of black athletes on their teams.

I don't know if this the right subreddit to be asking, but I am trying to work with the new Common Core State Standards to make writing about History and Social Sciences more engaging. I focused the majority of my research on the cultural context of The Adventures of Tintin, and was able to use that to make a good project on pre-WWII China, but I am looking for some other sources that can be analyzed for historical context. Does anybody have any advice on other topics and sources I can use to make a project out of? Context: I teach a sixth, seventh, and eighth grade cultural geography class that is completely open ended.

The native americans were inferior technologically to the European powers that came to conquer the new world. Why hadn't technology evolved at the same pace in the Americas as it did in Europe in the centuries leading up to the "discovery" of the new world?

My wife's grandfather was a bombardier in the lead plane of the Bloody 100th Heavy Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, in the days shortly after D-day, until the end of the war. His B-17 was the first of nearly 1000 in the larger raids, and they were accompanied by over 500 fighters.
My question is, if you were some farmer out in your field, and you saw the first plane going overhead, how long would it be until the last one passed? I have not been able to find this online. I would think it would be truly frightening to hear the rumble of radial engines as the "aluminum overcast" passed overhead.
Thanks!

Howdy folks, I'm in my first history class, and I'm sitting down to write my first paper. As the title says I'm having great difficulty finding sources. My paper is about the Age of Exploration, and for at least part of it, I want to look at the Economic repercussions of the fall of Constantinople, forcing Portugal to go round Africa (if that's a thing). What I'm asking is a) if anyone has any links to primary/secondary sources about that, and b) if anyone has any general advice on finding this stuff on my own, I've been tooling around on google for a while, but I feel like there is probably a more efficient way of doing this.
Thanks.

I was watching a show (Battle 360) and they showed some Japanese planes to be green, and some to be white. Was there a meaning to these different colors? Or is this something fabricated?

I study in Mexico, but went to emelmentary, middle, and high school in the states. Took some college courses in history and they are radically different at my current college. We emphasize a lot on historiography and interpreting historical texts. I have heard from other classmates that in other countries most emphasis on historiography comes at the graduate program. So how much was historiography emphasized in your programs? (sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section)

Was it similar to (or different from) how the American media covered the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan?
You can't edit the title, but I do realize that it should be "... cover the Vietnam War?" Sorry about that.

Especially gods other than the Greek-Latin equivalences like Athena-Minerva, although I would love to hear about them if you like! But these must have the same Indo-European roots, so conflation does not seem like much of a challenge.
What does seem difficult are Egyptian gods like Isis, or any other deities to be found in, lets say, 'semitic' lands. I know of the practice of evocation, or the 'inviting' of foreign gods into the Roman pantheon. Anyway, lots to talk about...

I was wondering what you guys thought the meaning of the cover of this magazine was. We debated it in APUSH but my teacher never told us what he thought the meaning was. I am interested in what others think about it. Thanks :)
