I'm about to do a project on Beowulf with emphasis on how the vikings that travelled to England affected the English people, and if/how that has bearing on how they chose to represent vikings in Beowulf.

So, what are the best sources on vikings in England?

I've heard the story but does anything back it up?

I’m an undergrad history major working on my honors thesis and am struggling finding materials - I want to write on sports in the Cold War and focus on hockey if it works out. A stipulation to graduate from my university with honors is that we have to contribute something new to the discussion on our chose topic. With that in mind, I’m struggling to find anything documenting changes in American governing bodies (USOC, USA Hockey, AAU, etc) that focus on winning competitions with the Soviets.

I’m kind of at a dead end right now. If anyone on this thread has any suggestions for me I’d be very grateful!!

Only a very small amount of people from a handful of countries have seen an actual nuclear explosion. How then did the public became aware of the shape of the distinctive mushroom cloud that is now synonymous with nuclear weapons?

After seeing images of Germany and Japan after bombings during WWII and learning about how devastated their industrial capacity was, then how was North Vietnam able to resist it for so long during the Vietnam War?

I’m generally wondering what non-wealthy people did to lock up their homes without the key-lock combo built into a door, which seems to be a roughly Renaissance-era level of craftsmanship development. Wealthy people, of course, being able to hire someone to watch the place, and buy locks as soon as they were historically available.

Several members of my family were members of the KPD in East Prussia before the Nazi takeover. Afterwards, almost all of them were killed in concentration camps. I'm wondering if this fate was common amongst members of the KPD.

Were they forced to join, did they sign up out of patriotism? Was it because of Religion? You'd think an army wouldn't want a bunch of farmers with no fighting experience in the front lines, nor would most farmers want to join the army and die.

Usually reading about history of Habsburg state and wars they fought emphasis is that rank and file was recruited from all parts of empire while officers who led them mostly were Germans (Austrians) and aristocrats.
