Hello! I'm looking to make a fantasy video game with a setting similar to the medieval period, but I was having trouble looking for information on what would be different from medieval mining villagess would be like from traditional farming villages or do they overlap in many ways?

I’m reading Headrick’s Tools of Empire for the first time. I have found many of his points compelling and interesting, and it is easy to immediately see their influence on shaping later investigations. However, I find many of his claims troubling and frustrating in their scope, such as how he defines the relationship between ideology and technology, and when he says stuff like “In today’s Asia and Africa, European political and religious ideals barely survive as tenuous mementos of a defunct imperial age - modern equivalents of the Mosque of Córdoba or Hadrian’s Wall.” Does anyone have a moment to point me in the right direction of a historiography of critical responses to this important work? This is not in my wheelhouse so I want to make sure the reactions I’m having to his claims are not entirely baseless.

We often think of Medieval Europe as having a very conservative society. But we know from modern history, that attitudes shift very rapidly from more liberal to more conservative. Were there times in Medieval Europe where attitudes were more liberal?

I understand the most of the civil war was fought with muzzle loading rifles, which I find interesting when repeaters where being manufactured. At what point before ww1 did they switch and was it to bolt action rifles or to repeaters?

In reading about Pytheas of Massalia, I saw this purported blockade mentioned in the discussion of how Pytheas may have been able to reach to British Isles. Upon a cursory search, I found a number of works that mention this blockade as an established fact without citing any particular sources, while at least one credible-seeming work that does cite some ancient sources argues that it's doubtful to have existed. It seems the basic idea is that the blockade would have been in place to restrict access to the tin trade to the north and/or the gold trade to the south. I would be interested to know what evidence there is for or against the existence of such a blockade. If it did exist, what form would it have taken? What would have been the reasons for it?
I would also be interested to learn any details about the Carthaginian involvement in the tin trade, or other activities in Atlantic Europe.

I cant imagine the trenches had area for showers etc. Assuming the soldiers would go months on end without being affording the ability to shower or clean themselves did this contribute meaningfully to disease?

Some say slavery, some say states' rights. What's the truth of the matter? Was Lincoln a pure pragmatist who really thought "if not freeing the slaves saves the union, I'd keep it, if freeing them saves the union, I'd do that too"? Or did people consciously think about "Confederate = Bad because slavery?"

Growing up, and still reading books today, the story goes that George Washington (his views evolving on slavery) freed his many slaves in his will. From what I've read this isn't really accurate and only one slave was actually freed.
I am wondering if Washington's wishes to free his slaves in his will was news at the time it happened, and if he intended for that action to be some type of political statement on abolition. Was this legend retroactively added to Washington's resume after slavery became taboo?

I'm reading a great book called "We Are Being Harmonised" about the Chinese surveillance state. There is a chapter about censorship and Tiananmen Square and it got me thinking about how complicit is "the west" in China's/CCP's rise?

As Britain was quite firmly rooted in Christianity by the 800's AD, do we know of any groups or sects who advocated against violence in the ensuing battles and wars on religious or moral grounds? I understand that Christianity was a different beast back then, but I wonder if there were any whose interpretation of the gospels would have rendered them pacifist regardless of the consequences?
